Well my son got to Great Lakes last night and got me very brief phone call to tell me he was there safe-I am doing a little better today and pray that my strength will continue to grow.  I am so proud of him-not only for choosing the navy but being able to step up to the plate and do this on his own.  I continue to pray that he will have the strength to complete what he started.  GO NAVY

Vicky, I can truly say I know how you feel...my oldest of 2 left for bootcamp last week.  Last week was one of the hardest weeks of my life.  On one hand I am SO INCREDIBLY PROUD of my son, and on the other, I miss him so much!!  We are very close, and were fortunate to spend a lot of family time together before he left.   I am already counting down the days until we can go see him for PIR.

I am happy for you that you got your extra day with him :-)

I am also happy I found this website...there has been so much good information, and so much great advice from moms who have been through this.  It helps me to read the posts.  Also, it helped me to watch the videos on the home page, which helped me to see what he is going through.

This week will be tough, but take all the support you are given...it really helps!

6Idahoans, our son will be leaving from the Atlanta, GA area on Tues., August 23. Who know's, our two may be in the same Ship/Div. We had a huge family BBQ last Saturday to celebrate this time in our son's life. It was great. I am much older than most moms. Thought when I saw my husband off to war in Vietnam in 1968 that would be the last time I had one of my own join the military. You have no idea about all the memories this brings up of 43 years ago. May both our sons arrive safely to bootcamp, Great Lakes. Hopefully it won't be but a week or so until we can post a PIR date and begin looking forward to graduation. Not sure yet how to post privately but when I figure it out I will be glad to send personal email address. Best wishes to all of you for a wonderful, peaceful and loving 5 more days together.

Ladies- I received my brief phone call Wednesday night from his cell phone which surprised me it was from his cell phone but I WAS EVER SO GLAD TO GET IT!  I've been writing him everyday and telling him about little things. Keeping them brief and funny and SUPPORTIVE but consistent.  When I get his address, let the flood gate of letters open!  I've numbered the back so he knows which order to read them..  The NavyMom's have been a life saver.  You have all helped me so much.  Even though the recruiter screwed everything up with my son's dates, times, locations at least he did steer me in the right direction by telling me to join NavyMom's!
