For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Boot camp info

Hello

My son just left for boot camp last week. I realize that the recruits are not able to communicate with family for a few weeks. Is there a way to find out if my son had his wisdom teeth extracted by calling someone at the boot camp base?

thanks to anyone who may be able to provide any information.

Comment by lemonelephant on June 24, 2013 at 11:11pm: You'll just have to wait and see what he tells you in a letter or call about that. Some do and some don't need to have one or more wisdom teeth extracted. The Navy does it if they believe there is potential for a problem and they take very good care of those who need to have it done. They don't usually do it durig P-days, but if it is needed, it is often done early on so that it doesn't disrupt training too much and several in the division have it done at the same time.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in June, to connect with others with loved ones who left the same day and may have PIR together.

You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

Comment by Hello2u on June 25, 2013 at 12:05pm: Maria, I totally understand your concern, don't worry, some get them out and some don't, it all depends on Navy DDS. if he did, it would be nice to get some rest and 'sleep' for two days there, you'll probably get a call or even a letter much sooner from him.(my son said it didn;t even hurt!) :)

Comment by Susan06239 on June 30, 2013 at 9:46pm: I suspected my son might have his pulled. I did find out about 4 weeks after that fact that he had all 4 pulled almost on arrival. He got one sick day after, one light duty day and then was back to full duty. Your son will be fine. No worries. He is in good hands.
