As I am writing this I cant stop crying.  Received a call tonight from my SR.  He sounded so defeated and broken.  He was set to graduate next week but has to wait till the following week because he made a mistake and this is the consequence.  I am notfor me but for him.  He has been doing an excellent job and working really hard.  I know he feels he let himself, division and us down which he did not,  I wrote him a letter tonight to let him know we are really proud o him and that this is just a bump in the road and he will come to the other end it will take just a little longer that is all.  I could use some encouraging words now.  It has been an emotional roller coaster with up and downs.  Will graduating 1 week later have any negative effect on him.  What about his job could this hurt his chances to get shipped out after boot camp.

Being ASMO'd will help him to understand that his negative actions have consequences. Yes, he let his division down, but he will have another chance with another division to show that he truly is Sailor material. He can only let himself and you down if he does not learn from this experience. Is he going to a new division with a 3 digit number and going to have PIR a week later or will he be sent straight to A School without PIR, in which case his new division number has 4 digits?

No, being set back a week does not adversely affect his future as long as he learns from this and goes on to be the kind of Sailor that the Navy thought he would be when they allowed him to enlist because it will go in his record. He will go on to A School after BC. It may put him in a later class than he was going to be in, but it may not since Sailors sometimes have to wait to class up once they arrive at A School.

He id going in the very next division.  One number away from his original.  I understand and so does he but it does not make sense to me that for 7 weeks you do a great job pass everything work really hard and for one mistake they do this.  How does this help.  I would understand more if it were in the first few weeks but not with one week to go

It doesn't matter when it happens, if a recruit/Sailor does something that does not meet Navy Standards, there are consequences.  By ASMOing him, the RDC hopes to get the point accross that this is about the Navy and teamwork, not your recruit's individual desires any longer.  Perhaps it was his performance to this point that led to the decision to ASMO him to the next TG and be able to have PIR rather than something more serious.

I guess so.  I do have a couple of questions though.  What does ASMO stand for and does this mean he will have to do his testing and the final week stuff again next week.  When does the I am a sailor call usually come.  The week of Graduation or before

ASMO=Assignment Modified (set back).  Anything that he has passed is passed and will not have to be retaken.  The "I'm a Sailor!" call can happen on any weekday (F & M-TH) beginning on the day of the previous week's PIR up to the day before PIR. I got my call as we were headed up to GL on the Thursday before PIR. Have you joined the PIR group that he is now in?  They will send a PM to the entire group to let them know when BS-21 will be based on information provided by the recruits. That information is only permitted to be shared in a PM and should not be posted anywhere until after it has happened.

I have not seen any info about BS yet.  I know they can not say it publicly but I have not seen any info in my messages either.  When should i get it

Comment by lemonelephant on July 18, 2012 at 12:36pm

I think diannep usually keeps track of the BS-21 dates.  You can PM her and ask her if anyone has given her the date for your SR's division.  Since at least 1 division will go through tomorrow night for next week, I would think that the PM with the dates has been sent to the group if they still do that.  Otherwise, know that 1 or more divisions will go through tomorrow night and then one or more of the nights S-W night of next week.  Keep your phone handy on Fand M-Th.  "I'm a Sailor!" calls begin 2ish and end 8ish pm Central time.
