Hello I am new here and have a special kind of dilemma going on. It looks like my son will be going to RTC Great Lakes in March if things remain on track. Since my son's freshman year in high school we have been dealing with my diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer. After quite a few surgeries and some nasty chemo I was in remission for almost 5 years..yay! We moved on with our lives and my son moved onto normal college life. This year he would be considered soph with some jr credits. So while everything seemed back on the track to " normal" my cancer returned only this time with a running leap. I am now colon cancer stage 4 (BTW i dont have a colon anymore.. go figure still call colonncancer) which means its pretty much everywhere. I have good days bad days'/ good weeks & bad weeks. I have always been honest with my son about my illness since he was born its always been just him and me he's been my best friend since befoRe birth. My outlook on the whole situation is life goes on and to make the most of it. I'm not saying my illness isn't effecting him because it is. His grades slipped and the navy became an option while he had always been interested in took front stage... Maybe a break from classes and a sick mother is in order. But being a mother I'm stressing is he just running away? My biggest fear is that something will go terribly wrong and I will pass away while he's in basic training. I just don't want to screw up his life anymore at such an important time in his life. It's so nice to see him so excited about this next phase of his life. So while I am planning an achor's away party and trying to figure out just what I can and can't send with him when he does leave, without much luck I may add. So my hopes and fears are here laid bare for your input and any advice you would be willing to impart I would be more then greatful. I just want life to go on for both of us and want be there for every milestone possible and believe me when I say if anyone make it it will be me! I'm one hell of fighter. Thank you in advance for letting me share my story and again all comments are welcomed and looked forward to.

Amen Navy Sister! You have an amazing testimony to share! You're son will be strong. You and he have a bond that some people on this earth never ever experience. I'm sending prayers and well wishes to you and your son today and forever!
