So, my son left on the 19th, and I was a mess for several days. It is getting easier, but I was dreading the box. It arrived today, but it was a neutral experience for me. I think that is because I had an intense reaction to an unexpected situation earlier. I had gone for a major grocery run, as I still have 3 other kids plus husband at home, and brought all the bags in to start putting things away. I started to clean and rearrange the fridge as I usually do to put the oldest stuff towards the back, newest stuff in the front and WHAM-a weepy mess. I found so many of his favorite foods-ones that his siblings don't really appreciate, like feta cheese, olives stuffed with almonds or garlic, fresh coconut water, his probiotics.... so then I couldn't decide whether to keep them or not. Wound up keeping them-at least for now ;-) It really hit hard what kind of sacrifice our loved ones make, not being able to have favorite foods is the least of it.

He had really been watching his nutrition, and had studied up on the best ways to keep healthy in BC. So he was eating lots of veggies, a few fruits, and lean protein, with vitamins and probiotics every day. Hope it works!

We are awaiting the letter to begin sending letters to him.

Does everyone keep the battery out of the cell phone till time to return them or should we keep it in? I put it in just to make sure the phone still worked, and now don't know what is best for the phone. Thanks all, and hope you are all having a wonderful day.

I don't know that it makes any difference on whether you keep the battery out or leave it in--in, it will be less likely to get lost.  You may want to look at putting his cell phone plan on military hold while he is at BC.  Reactivate it the day before PIR so that he will have it to use on Liberty and at A School.

"The Box" was a surreal experience for me. I knew it was coming, yet I sorta kinda dreaded it, and was looking forward to it at the same time! I think I was temporarily insane at the time...LOL. The days before the box are a real blur for me. I couldn't even walk by my daughters room without crying...It does get better with time. When you can start to write and receive letters, it gets even better. The BEST thing of all is when you get to actually speak to them on the phone! Hang in there, it does get better. You will have good days and bad days, but the good will far outweigh the bad. My SR will PIR May 11 and I can hardly wait to see her beautiful face! Just know you have every right to feel ALL these different feelings...YOU'RE A MOM!
