So my oldest child, and only daughter, joined the Navy straight after high school graduation. She was on the delayed entry program and left for boot camp on May 8th 2012. She made the 900th division and had a rifle solo at graduation!! Then it was off to San Antonio the very next morning for her corpsman school. Bootcamp was a breeze for her, hell for me. : ) School has been an emotional rollercoaster ride for her, as she also holds the CDC position within her division.
We have had our fingers crossed that when she got her orders she would come back to Jacksonville as there were over 30 openings available between Mayport and NAS which are both only 15 minutes away from home. Orders came in and it was Groton Conneticut. My heart dropped to the floor and is still there. She is excited, as her grandfather and uncle had both been stationed there. The realization that she may never come home is hitting me sooooo hard that I really dot know what to do. She truly is my best friend. I don't know how to make the hurt go away.......I miss her terribly. Does it ever get any easier??

We raise our children to leave us and pursue their own dreams.  Skype and facebook will become your friends.  Phone calls and time home on leave will be precious.  You have placed her in the best hands of all--those of God and the US Navy.  Be happy for her and stay busy and get used to this new normal for you.  Perhaps there is some travel in your future???

There are a lot of groups for that rating; check out and join HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio and Corpsman Moms and/or Corpsmen Moms and Dads.

I truly thank you all for your support and for sharing your own stories. It very comforting to hear the words come from those who are going through or have been through what I am going through now. I hope to travel to see her as soon as possible! As have many, I just recently became unemployed and having a 5 year old, makes the trip twice as expensive. Not to mention paying off the 3000.00 credit card bill from our Great Lakes trip! Worth every penny though!!!!! I am positive that I will make it happen though!

I made the trip to my son's PIR and then I wasn't able to make any trips until this year when I went to his "C" School graduation and it has been 4 years this month since he had PIR.  Your Sailor will understand if you can't afford trips for visits for a while.  Skype and fB are great tools to help keep you connected!
