I'm not one to blog about anything! I'm not a writer, and I usually prefer to keep my business private, but since this will probably effect future Navy Mama's I chose to share. As soon as I got my form letter from my SR with his PIR date I made reservations with the first hotel I stumbled upon. After doing some more research I decided to stay at a different hotel (The Ramada) (FYI, not much better in my opinion) and called back The Great Lakes Hotel to cancel my previous reservations. After being grilled as to why I didn't want to stay in "her hotel" and me trying to be nice about it, I stuck to my guns and told her I was not interested in staying at her hotel and I wanted to cancel my reservation. Well, fast forward to today, the week after my son's PIR, I was checking my bank statement and could not for the life of me figure out why there was a 75 dollar charge to my account from the Great Lakes Hotel. Then I remembered! I got on the phone to tell this lady that I had a charge on my account that I did not authorize. She said she would have to take my name and number and get back to me some time this week and that those records have passed already! What?? It was just this weekend! I am putting in a dispute with my bank and hopefully I can get my money back. I'm a tad bit angry about the unprofessionalism that has been displayed by this lady, and I would not recommend anyone staying with them. Just needed to vent. Hopefully someone will see this and know to stay clear from that place.
Thank you- my daughter is shipping right now to GL so I will be making reservations soon.
Awww, good luck!! It's a great ride! Just want you all to enjoy it! My advise, ask others where they stayed and get their opinions before you book. There are many nice hotels in the area. :)
Yes, we will never stay at that Ramada ever again! I swear it had bed bugs! I will remember the Residence Inn for next time since my son is in A school in Great Lakes. I would not recommend the Ramada either! ;)
We stayed at the Navy Lodge and it was great. Nice people, clean rooms at a good price
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and it was spotless. They offer Navy discounts.
Yikes! I better check my acct too,, I had cancelled with them too,, and Residence Inn, was no better,,,they ran my card 8 times in 2 days,,thank god I got "fraud alert" , they tried to sell me some story, I paid in cash instead for 2 days. not 8! Watch these guys!!
Oh how scary! Let me know if she charged you too. I have my bank working on it. I will post the outcome when I find out. :) Thanks for the info!
@luv,,,so far so good, no charges from them,,I guess because I asked for a Conf# and her name,,lol ,hope its all settled at your end! :)
Good luck to you and your daughter lfishman. It's a roller coaster ride for sure! @my3sons, still haven't heard anything yet, but my bank is on it. They actually put the 75 dollars back in my account but i don't want to use it until I know for sure. LOL
