Excellent Travel Service with US Airways

I want to share what an excellent experience my sailor son received from US Airways.  My father (his grandfather) passed early last Sunday morning and my son (just out of boot camp on July 12 and at A school at Great Lakes) was granted leave for a week to be with family and attend the memorial service.  He and my father were very close so he wanted to be with our family as soon as he could get there.  We began looking for flights for the same afternoon/evening and the cheapest we were finding was a one-way flight from O’Hare to Tampa for about $820 plus checked bag fees.  We thought this was going to be a huge, expensive ordeal.  I called US Airways to see if they offered a bereavement or active military discount.  They offer a military discount and booked him on the flight mentioned above, plus a return flight, for $386.60.  I booked his flight while he was in a taxi on his way to O’Hare less than two hours prior to departure!!!  (Another post to come on the awesome taxi service!).  It turned out that that both segments of his layover flight were delayed pushing his arrival time from 11:45 PM to about 1:30 AM.  When he arrived to check in, they had already changed his flight to a direct flight that would arrive at 11:11 for no added cost!  In addition, they checked both his sea-bag and garment bag at no charge (would have been $50).  This morning, on his return flight, they again checked his bags for free and upgraded his ticket to 1^st class!  He said that everyone was exceptionally friendly and helpful at every step of the process, as was the representative who helped me book the initial flight.  I wanted to share with all of you other Navy moms and suggest that you start with US Airways when looking for your next flight.  I know we sure will!!  A huge THANK YOU to US Airways for supporting our military men and women!
