One week ago, my son swore his allegiance to serve his country with a group of men and women known as the United States Navy. I can't say that it hasn't been rough.
But for the moment, there are no tears. My heart is still lonely- aching because a piece of it is with my son.
For for the moment, I can smile to know that we have both made it through this first week.
For the moment, I can gaze at his photo, truly wondering how much he has already learned.
For the moment, I can feel a bit lonesome when he isn't here to share a family outing but I can do it without becoming a blubbering momma.
For the moment, my heart can swell with anticipation for that first letter, that first phone call.
For the moment, I can be content with myself for being a strong, independent woman, the traits that I tried to teach my son through the years.
For the moment, I'm going to relish in my happiness because I know that there will be those weak moments that will seem ever-ending.
For the moment, I'm going to hold my head high because I know that is what my son would want for me to do.
For the moment, I am going to handle myself with pride and dignity because my son is part of the elite.
He is a United States Navy Recruit!!
