OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

The easy way to remember advancement date is::

1st class = 1st Thursday of March or Septemeber

2nd class = 2nd Thursday of March or September

3rd class = 3rd Thursday of March or September

Comment by Craig on February 28, 2012 at 11:39pm: It use to be that sailors would say they were getting out, but then at the last minute decide to stay in. However, those days are long gone.

Now the only reasons they "make" sailors take the advancement test it is because it figures into the CO's fitness report. The CO has to report the advancement status of their Sailors. If they have folks who miss the exam without good reason, it could make their fitrep go south. Ditto for folks failing the exam or not PNAing it and no corrective action being taken to improve their scores, etc.

Secondly, if I was getting out why wouldn't I want to take the test? I would want all of my options open if I decided to go into the reserves. Now, if I was 100% I wasn't, then I wouldn't worry about it. But if I did pass it, the the results often carry over to the reserves.
