Received a wonderful 52 minute call from our son today! Sooooo good to hear his voice and know that he has settled in and actually enjoying BC. He said he was in Division 906, but still wasn't given his form letter to fill out and send and probably would be another week before he gets it. He also said that his PIR date would be 12/28...that is the not so good news for me. Although I am proud and happy for him, the one thing that kept me strong was being able to have him home for Christmas.  It saddens my heart to the point of physically hurting, but I know that I "need" to be strong, that although he won't be here physically, he will be in thoughts and spirit.

Thank you Nrainygrl, we are planning to go to The PIR graduation. I didn't realize we were allowed to take things for him or more so that he would be able to keep it with him. We're still looking forward to having him home for two weeks before A school, which is a plus, so our plan was to have a second Christmas at that time. I appreciate the think outside the box mind frame and I will definitely take that to heart. Our daughter suggested we wait completely and even though I admire her big sister thoughts, I just don't feel it would be the right thing to do. I'm trying to avoid her feeling like she is forgotten when she is here. This will be an adjustment for us all. Best wishes to you and yours.

A 52 minute phone call! Wow, SCNavyMom - you are sooo blessed for that. We are still awaiting a phone call but we got our form letter stating PIR for 12/21....and it really doesn't matter about Christmas to me.....it's just another day that can be celebrated on your own schedule - many families adjust their holidays to accommodate out-of-state peeps and in the end, more fun is had by all :))))))

Did you receive the form letter first, Yolanda?  900 is a very special division.

Yolanda, when I spoke to our son he mentioned that the girls division (905) that they are paired with helped to get them their time back that was lost due to someone having their necklace outside of uniform and a couple SR's were talking in the galley. Yay go girls!

RanesMom, it was so nice to his voice and actually to hear that he is doing better than I thought. We were sooo surprised and definitely blessed. He said they all start out with 60 minutes but lose time or the privilege depending on what happens, he also mentioned that it would probably be another week before they get to fill out three form letter.

So that's why we haven't got a call yet - no galley chat, fellas

Good morning, my daughter, Marlene, pronounced Mar-lay-nay (German), is in Ship 02 Div 905.  I am surprised that you've received a phone call...jealous!  I keep my cell phone on all the time just in case she gets to call.  She is my youngest of three, the only girl.  Glad to hear that her division helped 906 get back some phone time; means they are doing well!  I received her letter last week with the PIR date of 12/21.  She shipped out on 10/24.

cinders410- I have yet to receive our letter and he said it would be another week. Sigh. But it was good to hear his voice. Glad her PIR date is 12/21 as I mentioned our sons was moved to 12/28. He did  say that his calls would come in on Saturdays between 1-5 if he were able to make another call, although I am not sure that is standard for all Divisions. Our son shipped out on 10/23.

RanesMom-LOL I know, I feel so bad, but I do believe who ever it was chatting has learned their lesson. Our son said that Div 905 & 906 is moving ahead of the other Divisions, but he was still waiting to get what he called the Peanut butter shot. 0_0. So I'm not sure if Div 905 has completed their medical yet or not.

YAY - I'm so glad to hear they are moving ahead other divisions.  Keeps my head up.  We haven't received any calls yet - I just hope Rane wasn't the one who spoke in the galley.  YIKES!  SCNavyMom - you have given me great info and I appreciate you posting what you learned from your son - anything else did he say?

Comment by SCNavyMom (Ship 02 DIV 906) on November 5, 2012 at 5:22pm

RanesMom, he did say that he the Divisions were coming together as a team and he could already see the difference in everyone. He was in very high spirits and that made me feel at ease knowing that they are working as a team. He specifically mentioned Division 905 because when Division got into the galley trouble, Division 905 took upon themselves to clean something and be ready for when they arrived back with the Recruit Division Commander. The RDC was so impressed by this that they all earned privileges back to a degree. I'm sorry that you haven't received a call as of yet, but at least you are able to send out letters, I have a tremendous stack piling up. The only other conversation was in regards to several opportunities that were presented and his interest in picking one. He did say that there is a difference between Division 905's RDC and Division 906's, but he didn't go into detail.
