My son is a grad n go also. I will be driving from PA to The Great Lakes 10 hours to see him graduate from boot camp, get to visit with my son until 8 pm that night, then he leaves the following morning for the airport before the sun is up. I will be meeting my son at the airport to give him his overnight bag of civies. I will need tissues with me because I won't be enjoying seeing him off again so soon. He is going to SC, so maybe I can visit there. The drive will be as long as it was to get to The Great Lakes. As far as visiting while in A-school, I have no answers. Does anybody know if you are allowed to visit while at A-school? Please let me know. We are shopping for a truck for my son that he wants to buy. If all goes well with the purchase, then I will be driving the truck to SC and flying home. Maybe he will have liberty weekend and we can hang out for a little while Wish me luck. Susan

Thanks for the heads up. It is such a comfort to hear from other Navy Moms who have been through this before to help those that are just starting. Now, I know what I have to look forward to while my son is at A-school. The papers were signed for my son's truck today; just need to wait for some info from him that he can either mail to me or I will get the papers from him while at The Great Lakes and then bring the papers home to the car dealer. Then my husband and I can bring the truck home. I do know that until my son has been at A-school for 4 weeks, he is not allowed to have a vehicle until then. So I have that trip to look forward to, taking your advice and checking on his study hours and if the weekend will be a good one for a visit. I will plan ahead like I usually do and try to give my son enough of advance notice so that he can arrange for us to visit with him for that weekend. You are so right about the short visit, but seeing my son again and how he has grown and matured will be putting a smile on my face from ear to ear and also have tears streaming down my face as well. I got a letter from my son today (a long letter) talking about his inspections, fire stations, and all that he has been doing and meeting all his requirements for graduation. We both are counting (my son and I) are counting down the days for graduation. Any time spent with my children, time allowed, is good enough for me. How is your son doing now and where is he? Best of Luck to you both. Thanks, again. Susan

I hope that your son's duty station is in the states because if it is overseas then he will be looking for a smaller vehicle. My daughter has a trailblazier and we are looking for an old beater to ship to Naples, Italy. The gas is $12.00 a gallon there and the roads are smaller. She just left Aug 5th and we are still waiting to ship her things there. You can take his truck to A-school and he'll get extra time to drive home before he goes to his duty station so that will help with not having to buy a plane ticket home.

Thanks for answering. All I know so far is that my son's A-school is in South Carolina. Not to sound uninformed, still learning the new terminology, what are you referring to when you mention his duty station. Is that where he will be going when his schooling is done? I can appreciate your needing a smaller vehicle for your daughter. My husband and I have a trailblazer, and I know how big this one is to handle. Being on small roads, a smaller vehicle would benefit your daughter better. Best of luck finding one. What is your daughter's job in the Navy? Thanks, again. Susan
