Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Having a very hard time....too much going on

My son leaves for GLNS in 2 days. i just found out yesterday my only brother (59 y/o) was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. he has gone so downhill in only 2 weeks. talked to our son and he did say he doesn't want bad news while at BC. Totally understand. i just can't stop crying. i need to be strong for our son but i'm having such a hard time holding it together! this has been the worst weekend of my life.

It is good that you and your son were able to discuss this before he left otherwise you would be trying to decide what to do. He will need all his focus to get through boot camp and you will need all you strength and love for your brother. Comment by Murphy122 on April 1, 2014 at 12:27pm: Well he's on his way. Dropped our son off at recruiting station this AM. Does not want us to go to MEPS or airport tomorrow. Very emotional good bye. I was doing ok until my daughter started and he held onto her so tight. they are only 20 months apart and best buds! Thanks for all your support here and all the great suggestions. I figure I have to run out of tears sometime.....right? So now the focus is on prayer. I know he'll do great at boot camp can't wait for the end of May and PIR.

And go ahead and start writing letters. Just number them on the outside corner so when he gets a whole bunch at once he will know the order to read them in! Keep busy and count Fridays (not individual days!) - this way time will go by faster.....hang in there - you can do this (and so can he!!)! {{{hugs}}} to you!

Comment by Cybermama Ship 09, Div 160 on April 4, 2014 at 11:43am: I hope for the best for your brother. I am a 2 time breast cancer survivor who has also had a thyroid cancer recently. Both times I had BC I was given 2 years to live. The first time was in 2001; the last time, which was an inoperable cancer, was in 2012. I'm still here and it's thanks to modern medicine. Stay strong for your brother and your SR. You all can get through this. We will pray for you and your brother.

Comment by Murphy122 on April 4, 2014 at 3:20pm: Cybermama thank you so much for the support and prayers. We all need them. Got our 10 second call on Wed night from our SR. He's good and i'm calming down in regards to BC (a little!). As for my brother, we were told on Tues. night (same day as our son leaving for BC) that his options are more chemo to maybe get a few months or hospice/comfort measures. He sadly chose hospice. We will get thru this and i know my son will make his uncle frank proud. My brother is very proud of him already. God bless all of you.
