Decesions, decesions,

my boyfriend left on the 10th of July, we've recieved his box and hopefully will recieve his form letter soon. So, here is my question. I know that they may only have four people written down on their list to go. His sister was recently married so it will be her, her husband and his parents. I read that you can go to the visitor center before hand and if there is room at their graduation, they will let you in. Do you think it will be worth it to go and risk the possibility of not seeing him graduate? and what are the chances of me getting in so that i can see his graduation if i do go to the visitor center? im thinking of going regardless just so that I can see him a little bit while he is on liberty that night before he goes off to A school.

From what I've been reading, unless there are a large number of divisions within the Training Group, you should be ok.  I've seen other people mention that other recruits in their division have included someone else's "extra" on their gate pass - you'd have to know that person's name when you arrive for PIR.  I think you'd have a really good chance of getting in anyway, even without being on someone else's guest list.  Good luck.

Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall can handle up to 16 Divisions and their four guaranteed guests. When we had a 14 Divison PIR, RTC posted a statement about "extra" possibly guests not getting seated. I do know of one veteran mom who's Sailor had 13 divisions graduating and all of her extra guests got in.

That being said there are some who just want to be there...they understand that they may not get in but want to be there with their loved one and celebrate with them! So they take the chance.

Trying to secure seats through another recruit is a good idea if they can do it...but some may not have the chance or time to do so. Recruits finalize their original PIR access list a week or two before PIR.

This excerpt is from the RTC Family Guide:

Pass-In-Review Access List:

Recruits are permitted to place up to four names on the

access list. If the names in the form letter are different

than the guests attending, please coordinate with your

Recruit as only Recruits may place names on the list.

RTC can neither change these names nor release the

names of those on the list.

Children age 12 and younger do not need to be listed on

the access list and will not count toward the maximum

number of guests.

Active Duty and Retired military personnel will not

count toward the maximum number of guests, and do

not need to be listed on the access list, but must present a

valid Active Duty/Retired military ID card.

Q.

How many guests per recruit are allowed to attend Pass-In-Review?

A.

+/-

Recruits are permitted to place up to four names on the access list. Please coordinate with your Recruit as only Recruits may place names on the list. RTC can neither change these names nor release the names of those on the list. Children age 12 and younger do not need to be listed on the access list and will not count toward the maximum number of guests. Active Duty and Retired military personnel will not count toward the maximum number of guests and do not need to be listed on the access list, but must present a valid Active Duty/Retired military ID card. The four guests on the access list will be admitted into the ceremonial drill hall first. Additional guests not on the access list will have to wait inside the Visitor Center until after the start of the ceremony at which time they will be allowed into the ceremonial hall if additional seating is available as space permits. No additional seating can be guaranteed. All guests 18 years and older, must present valid government issued photo identification (driver’s license, state ID card, passport, military ID card). Guests 17 years or younger who do not possess one the items listed above must present one of the following: school ID card, driver’s permit, copy of their birth certificate or social security card. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS.

Q.

When will I receive tickets/passes to graduation?

A.

+/-

There are no actual tickets or passes. Recruits list the names of up to four guests that will be included on the access list. Recruits cannot obtain additional “tickets” from other recruits.

Q.

I am not sure I am on the access list. Can you find out and make changes if I am not?

A.

+/-

It is the recruit’s decision whom to place on the access list. Please communicate with your recruit well before the final week of training to be sure the right names are on the list. The Public Affairs Office does not have a copy of the access list as they names on the list are not divulged to the public. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation.

M&M: Don't worry!  My son and I were on the "not enough room" list and there was a lot of standing and waiting while everyone else who was on the list went in. But all of us in the line got in and got good seats!  It will be worrisome, but they will make sure that everyone gets in!

Comment by GodBlessAmerica on July 22, 2012 at 11:27am

M&M, the ceremony is exciting and wonderful, and from what I understand there isn't a problem getting everyone in until there are fourteen divisions.  However, in my opinion, the time afterwards is PRICELESS.  It is a joy to see and talk with your sailor. You will get to have lunch and supper with him.  Also, you will get to spend time at the airport and see him off to his Aschool.  If you can go, go.

I totally agree with GodBlessAmerica. Go and know that at the very least you will be able to spend time with your boyfriend after PIR and at the airport before he leaves for A school. Have a great time!!
