His last year of high school and then off to boot camp

My son starts his senior year of high school tomorrow and after that...July 25, 2013 he's off to boot camp. As a mom, I know how fast time is going fly by, he doesn't. He's my last. I look at the posts from my friends on Facebook and they are wishing their 6th and 8th graders a "great first day of school." I'm crying like a baby and he hasn't even started. I know, deep breath.

As I have read previous posts on N4M's...I now no why I am so weepy. I have never been more proud of my son than the day I got the text..."I am a proud memner of the US NAVY." I was elated..unbelievable..so happy. Now, it's all setting in...11 months to go and I have to do this list of stuff that I have been wanting to do with my kids and cram it all into 11 months. They think I'm nuts...nobody was up for a Whale Watch...really? OK...we're going to the Grand Canyon...booked. Lake George NY...in 2 weeks...just keeping busy. Get it all in.

My son decided in his junior year of high school that he was interested. He took criminal hustice at school and a navy Recruiter got ahold of him. He left 8-14 for BC. I think of him constantly, What is he doing right now, etc. Just stay tuned to this web site and it will help you along. Also there is a facebook group-Navy Moms that is awesome. Lots of moms just like you and me. If you are like me you want to be in the know, there is alot of information out there. Just ask. Good Luck to you

My son also just started his senior year and will leave for bootcamp June 10. We're very excited, as is he, but am afraid this year is going to fly by :(

ZWB/Kathy, you may want to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in July, to connect with others who have loved ones leaving in July and who may even end up training with your son.

Tracy, join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in June.

Both of you, I also suggest you join New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages and Discussions there.

Your future Sailors may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there.

SailorFletcherMom, I see you have joined the group for your SR's PIR date; you may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Mom's, PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here

(Groups names and links within this comment are clickable links.  To jon a group, clck on the group name and after the group page opens, click on "+ Join..." in the upper right.)

I totally understand how you feel. My daughter always knew she wanted to join the Navy but got really serious about it in November (She had to wait to turn 17 first). By December she had enlisted and was just waiting for high school graduation to leave.

She left for BC last week, 21 August, and it's been difficult to see everybody else see their kids off to school. I missed the back to school shopping, the helping her pick her classes or arguing with her about why some classes were better than others.

You are lucky you found out about this page while he is still in high school. I just learned about it the day she left for boot camp. I've found it to be a great source of information and everybody is very nice and informed.

Good luck to you and your son!

My daughter decided to join last January. It was a total shock for me but I get her reasoning now. She had no money for college and she didn't want to go to just some community college. She's always had her heart set on Penn State. She swore in last april and was originally supposed to leave in October, however her ship date got changed to March as she got her new rating. I am very happy to have her for the holidays one more time, but the month of March is going to suck.

Deffinatly have him join Navydep.com. My daughter would sit there at school in one of her classes and just browze the site. Now she moderates a group on there because shes on it so much. There is alot of information on the site and it's very useful.
