IMPORTANT: Revised Community Guidelines and Policies!

Updated 10 July 2009
Message from Rear Admiral Robin Braun

N4M Members,

As I mentioned in my previous message, we have been conducting a very thorough review of the Community Guidelines to ensure we continue to provide our members the most rewarding experience possible while respecting the freedoms our Sailors serve to protect.

As you know, the purpose of NAVYForMoms.com is to bring together Navy parents and the parents of recruiting-age young men and women to discuss the multitude of leadership, training, and career opportunities our Navy offers and the great pride Navy parents have in their children. NAVYForMoms.com exists to allow families an open forum to discuss what life in the Navy is really like.

Today, I am pleased to announce the completion of this review and the adoption of new Community Guidelines for the NAVYForMoms.com website.

The goal of the new Guidelines is to facilitate open discussion without compromising the purpose of the website, namely the exchange of information relating to service in the Navy. As I noted in my previous message, your personal freedoms are extremely important to the Navy and my hope is that these updated Guidelines provide the best possible balance between the defense of those liberties and the integrity of the website.

I encourage everyone to review the revised Community Guidelines and to become familiar with acceptable use on the NAVYForMoms.com website. The new Community Guidelines may be reviewed here.

I would like to draw your attention to the discussion of off-topic posts and the need to keep discourse civil. These rules are intended to ensure that members get the quick and useful answers to their Navy-related questions in the friendly and collegial atmosphere that has come to define NAVYForMoms.com.

Please know that NAVYForMoms members’ suggestions played a critical part in the revision of the Guidelines, and we will continue to rely on your honest feedback as we strive to provide the best possible user experience.

As always, I would like to thank you for your continued support of the Navy family and our men and women who serve our great nation.

Rear Admiral Robin Braun, USN
Commander
Navy Recruiting Command

I am outraged absolutely outraged that anyone would attack a sailor PERIOD! A man who had defended his country.. I can't imagine how pathetic a person has to be to do this and TDM I am glad you have resource available to fight this.. Consider me in your corner!!! And let me know if I can do anything.. I write really good letters.. just ask Harry Reid... :)

I guess maybe the one issue I am struggling with is what is it about the first amendment that people do not understand? The hypocrisy involved in what is going on here is mind blowing! Change the names of the religious group? That fixes everything? If you paint a horse pink isn’t it still a horse?

And the politics groups... Poltics got us into this mess to begin with.. my sons have gone to Iraq because of politics but we can't speak about that here! Again Irony at its best!

If we are getting rid of these groups get rid of all of them.. have one general discussion forum where individuals can post there topics.. Because honestly we need another 500 posts about what we can and can't send our kids to GL.

The bottom line for me is… I find comfort in the religious groups and an Atheist, Wiccan or any other religion is not a threat to my Catholic upraising because I know in my heart what is right for ME.. and I am ok if that's not what is right for them.. They have the right to believe what they want, we have many brave men who died for that right...

I am a republican but I have an open mind and I am not threatened by a democrat and their views simply because.. We are all fighting the same fight... we are all mothers in arms...

So if your beliefs lead you to praying to a goat wearing pink polka dots then by God I am willing to stand behind you and support your right to believe in that goat... and even have a discussion group to said goat..

If you don’t like what is being said in these forums then why are you subjecting yourself to them? yes you have the right to read them but you do not have the right to shut them down because you do not like what you are reading...

I have seen just as much nastiness on the general forum as I have on the other groups but apparently that that’s ok…

Kathleen, may I suggest you create some groups: Catholic Moms, Methodist Moms, Scuttlebutt, Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Conservative, Libertarians ?? Let's see what happens after you create all these new groups. I do not care to join your Baptist Women's group.

KRN: Here's my point again. Create the groups. Very simply solution. Doesn't even require any blood shed.

I got to say it again... if you paint a horse pink its still a horse, if you call a horse a frog.. Its still a horse!.. so changing the names of the religious groups seemed a little stupid to me to be honest... what’s sad is that there was a bit of nastiness on the general forum the other day and apparently its allowed there... hypocrisy yes indeed it is... so I am going to start my group.. Mom’s who worship pink polka doted goats..

All are welcome to join... but just so you know.. Irony vs hypocrisy is the topic for tonight.... and maybe a side discussion on those out dated ideals called the Declaration of Independence.. And what did they really mean by that? And tomorrow’s discussion entitled… The Constitution is this for real? Or a colossal joke?

Sorry for the sarcasim (or was it?) but I still can't get over changing the names of the religous groups... its almost laughable...

"Give me liberty or give me death” many died for our liberties.. I know I personally will never forget....

Cathy wrote: I intend to pray especially hard today for the safety of a young man who is somewhere in Afghanistan in enemy hands (last I knew). I wish you all a great day of picnics, parades and fireworks. Happy 4th.

I'll join you in that, and also in praying for those young Marines and sailors in the big push in Afghanistan right now fighting that big fight to clear out the Taliban and hunt down Al Queda...as well as our military in Iraq fighting and living in that war zone.

But that soldier, it's a military mom's greatest fear. I hope she's holding on okay today.

Cathy as I read this thread with the 467 comments I think about him.. and I think about the others who are there.. I especially think of my son who is in Iraq and all the other sons in Iraq... I worry about our men and women on ships near N. Korea and our men and women fighting to stop the pirates from taking more ships and lives.. My heart goes out to that Marines mom, I cried when I heard that story because simply... it could have been mine... or any of the mom's I have become aquainted with on this site and others...

I wish I could reach out to that Mom her worst nightmare came true....

Deb, is it a Marine that was captured? I heard that on a discussion on fb yesterday as well. I keep reading "soldier"...doesn't really matter. I can't get any news on the stupid TV because of the MJackson hoopla. Why on earth would they want to report about real news concerning real heroes when they can flash that trash? ugggh. anyway, share any links you find about this with me someplace, okay?
Comment by Debby on July 4, 2009 at 10:37am
Karen this is what I have found.. and It absolutely breaks my heart that the news on MJackson is more important than this.. than N Korea blasting off missles this moring... I think America in general has no clue what a true hero is.. I have heard this term when they have talked about MJ in the week long mourning...
And now it appears he may have died due to drugs... yes he's someone to look up too..... ok I digress here's what I found.. I did a google search for "soldier kidnapped in afganistan.. there's more but they all seem to say the same thing...

I keep my flag flying all year long and even adhere to the rules of the flag.. like take it down when its raining etc.. of course we dont get a lot of rain here in Nevada so its up more than down.... I also keep my Blue Star flag up year long and since my kids seem to be on the revolving door deployment to Iraq I have a yellow ribbon on my big tree in the front yard... I also have the front of my house decorated in the Americana theme which is very patriotic.. My family has a very long military tradition that I am proud of and everyone gets to see it reflected in my home.. I even have a military picture wall in my house.. you are only on that wall if you were/are military...

My flag stays up ALL year long..My service flag hangs in my front window along side another American flag. Independence Day is everyday at my house!
As far as the guidelines go...Lets see what the Admiral has to say! And not bash one another. Lets support each other through good times and bad.
Have a Great Week All
