I'm thinking about my son. Worried. Hoping he's ok. Tears flowing when I think about it. Anyone got any advice?
My son leaves for OCS in a few weeks. I am so happy and excited for him! This is what he has wanted since he was 13 years old! I am going to miss him and his little family very much, but I look forward to traveling and visiting with them. My husband an I both are veterans. I suggest getting involved with some military organizations or veterans. Learn more about the military life. I love the Navy....

Good luck to you and your sons/daughters.
Hello. Is your son in Newport? My daughter reported on Sunday and I have overwhelmed with more emotions that I thought I had. But I think we have the easy part. Our children are in a new place, with no access to cell phones, computers, ipods, etc (this has to be a shock to them).
I have no military experience, and I've been scouring websites and blogs and I just don't know what to believe. For example, I didn't know mail had to be in white envelopes. I just found that out this morning, and now am worried that her friends may have written her letters or sent cards and pictures; and will she be punished for that. Is that true?
Hi, yes my son is in Newport. I know what you mean - the emotions, the tears, the worry, the heart that feels like it's torn, the pride, etc etc. My oldest son was in the Army. He's out now and a student about to graduate from PSU, but that being said - I don't feel like I have enough "military experience". I didn't find this website until after my son had left. Have you joined the facebook group for their class? That is a very good source of information specific to us and our LOs.
ampepper, click on links for the two groups in my previous comment.
I didn't know about the white envelopes either, luckily that is what I sent but the information I got said they could not receive care packages but I have sent a couple cards and the envelopes were probably not white and I added some family pictures. It stated anything that could fit in a envelope, but not to send with stickers and writing on the envelope. I thought the pictures would be good because it stated to send things to make them not so homesick. But after his call he seemed to be really enjoying it and said it wasn't to bad as long as you paid attention to detail. He didn't seem homesick at all. He liked everyone in his Ship. I just thinks its harder on us moms!
