Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Its Official I am a Mom of a Seaman Recruit
As of yesterday I am an official mom of a Seaman Recruit. My Son left for Bootcamp yesterday. I received 2 calls from him last night. One when he landed in Chicago and the scripted call.
I joined this site in May 2013 when my Nephew entered Bootcamp. In November my Son joined the DEP, and yesterday he shipped. I am quite proud of myself, I am doing ok I thought I would be in really bad shape. I know he is doing what he wants to do and I am so proud of him. He was so excited when he left, so I picture the huge smile on his face and that is what is getting him through. I hope he is doing OK, I think he was prepared for what is ahead. PIR cannot come soon enough though.
I hope to meet others going thru this journey at the same time. I have met some. Thanks

Hi D C just take it one day at a time. Keep busy and start writing the day she leaves so that when you get the form letter you can mail all the letters out. I write letters as if I a having a conversation with him. Sending moleskin and bandaids is good. I also send a self addressed stamped envelope i each letter I write so all he has to do is write something and stick in the envelope.
If you are on Facebook and not already on Navy for Moms on FB, join them. It is an awesome group and there will also be a PIR group set up for your Daughter's graduation date. There you will meet other parents going thru the same as you. IT really helps. Good luck and let me know how you are doing.
