MY son just shipped out today for boot camp, its a very mixed emotion kind of time. Im happy and proud and know that this will be a good start on his adult life, but I miss him so much already, for the firsat time in 18 years I wont be able to be there and help if needed.  Just a lot of first happening all at once i know he will be fine and do well but the thought of him being there and so nervous and anxious without me is very hard.  already looking forward to seeing him at graduation

We said our good-byes today too, but he doesn't fly out until morning. I'm sort of relieved this day is here, now we can start looking forward to graduation! Our son is older though so I'm not going through those 1st time away from home blues. It has been an extremely emotional week. Good luck getting through it!

My daughter shipped on 8/2 - she's been away from home a lot through her growing years (various camps and such) - and was away to college for 4 years.  You just never get used to their leaving - no matter how old they are.  I miss her like crazy - but I'm so proud of her and I know this will be a good thing.  The tears come when I least expect them (like when I just now landed on this blog).  Am already counting the days until graduation!

I totally know what you mean about the tears coming when you least expect them. I was at the grocery store and started crying when I saw foods that I buy for our son! I had to hide down a quiet aisle and pull myself together before I could check out! Hopefully that won't happen again! Our son shipped out today, when are you thinking graduation will be?

yes i totally agree with the tears hapening when you least expect them, but it helps to hear from other moms who are feeling the same way. I talked to my son when he landed in chicago and that was really nice, didnt sound too bad, and dad took the very brief call from him when they let him call from bc, the call was long enough to say he was there and ok and that they were not going to be sleeping at all that night.... looking forward to knowing the grad date. once again it's great to hear from you all it really is a comfort

The phone call from my daughter (shipped out from Detroit) was a relief - but too quick and it left questions.  You know how you can tell just from the sound of their voice what they are feeling?  Sad, mad, scared - etc.  Although I didn't question her beyond, "are you OK?", I could tell in her voice that my normally courageous daughter was feeling maybe a little scared and a lot tired.  So naturally she's on my mind constantly - wondering what she is doing.  She said she will be able to call again in about 3 weeks - but same routine - just a brief 90 second call.  Have already written one letter to her - am still waiting for the address on where to send mail though.  I know that sounds rather anxious - but I'm actually pretty calm - and I agree - having this outlet is fantastic!  It is great to have a place to talk where everyone understands!
