So my daughter made a 52 on the ASVAB and went through MEPS yesterday and the day before. I don't think I have ever felt this many emotions all at once, I am so very proud of her, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. I have no clue what to expect next. Delaney's recruiter is coming to the house on Friday to go over her contract, she goes to RTC on August 26, 2015. I know that seems like a long time, but there is so much going on between now and then. She has Senior prom, graduation, her 18th birthday, then....off to RTC. It may seem like a long time, but I am sure it will fly by and then my sweet girl will leave to start her new life. Wow, I was prepared for her to go off to college, but this is going to be so completely different. I have never spent a holiday away from her and now I am looking at missing Thanksgiving and Christmas both with her, my hubby wants to take me somewhere so I won't think about it so much, but she's my first born, she's momma's girl, I am going to be lost without her.

How are you figuring that you will miss both Thanksgiving and Christmas?  There is a fair chance that her boot camp graduation will fall on Thanksgiving weekend. And her A school will probably stand down for Christmas week and allow her to "borrow" unearned leave (vacation) time so she can go home. Sure, you are going to miss her, but don't make it any gloomier than it has to be.

We figured her PIR will be around Halloween, that's 9 weeks, she then goes straight to training for 4-5 weeks. I am not making it gloomy, she is happy and I am happy for and very proud of her. Everything will work out, I am not going to make things hard on her, or myself for that matter.

And plan on a memorable family summer vacation. If you had any money set aside for college, use it to do something extra special before she leaves.

Oops.  Somehow I started count weeks in the month,  Yes, Thanksgiving is probably out,  but Christmas is not off the table.

What rating (job) is she signing on for?

She signed up for SPACT

We are going to do a big celebration for her 18th birthday and then 4th of July, especially with her now in the military

My husband and I are both Navy vets and were so proud of our girl when she decided to enlist.  Her brother had enlisted 4 years ahead of her and we all had plenty of insight as to what she was going into.  She went into the DEP the summer between her junior and senior year of high school.  All that year I kept in the back of mind - this is the last _________ we will get to have with her!!!  That year went fast and I always felt I was ready for that date when she would leave.  But it hit me like a brick wall!!!!  We did have a big graduation party for her and her twin sister who was leaving for college, and also had a nice vacation with them to Niagara Falls.  Still, it was so hard for me cause I could see my college daughter all the time but had only the occasional letters from my sailor.  Once she got to A school, we could call and text so at least I had that contact again.  Now she's a vet going to college on the GI Bill, her sister went into the Navy after college and is a Naval Officer training to be a Flight Officer.  Son is still serving and planning on staying in until he can retire!!!  I'm so proud of my sailors and I know you feel the same way about your girl.  It will get easier, but you will always miss her in one way or another.  Just know that you're not alone and there are many wonderful Navy parents on here ready and willing to help you on your Navy Mom journey!!!!!!
