I my name is Shelly and my son Matt just left for boot camp on 10/04/10.This is all new to me and I'm so lost. I don't know when I will get an address or hear from him. If anyone has information for me that would be great. This has been really hard on me.

Hi Shelby, Yes..this is hard. Mine has been there two weeks as of this week Tuesday and believe me (and ask others in here..) I was a MESS. I can tell you..it gets better. Hard to believe but it does. I still sleep with his box next to my bed (stinky clothing/shoes and all) and can't go into his room but i now know..its got to be better for him. Routine has had to have set in..and its all good.

One piece of advise someone gave my son..and I know its silly but it worked for me is...focus on the meal times, versus counting day's, weeks till PIR, etc. I did that. The first week..i focused on making it through bfast, then lunch and then dinner then..around 9ish...(and I made this time up)..told myself he made it through another day..and focued on bfast the next day. Tadaaaaaaaaaaa..time has flown by that way..for me at least..lol.

I still miss him every moment and think of him all the time but..its a bit easier.

Please know you are not alone and it gets better. HUGS

Hi Shelly- I know exactly what you are going through. My son left 10/4 also and it has been difficult but having N4M has really helped me a lot. I still cry sometimes and I smell his clothes often. He left his room messy and I have not cleaned it up yet because it looks like he will be right back. I did not want to let him go but I was also very proud. I read about other moms and I laugh, cry and get excited for them and me because soon I will walk that path they have walked. The support is so wonderful. My son told me that I would be on the site all the time but I didn't think I needed to tell people my feelings because they would not understand. Boy was I wrong. A mother is a mother no matter where she lives, what she does for a living, married or single. Stay on this site and you will feel much better. Yes you may still cry but it will get better. Hope to see you at PIR!

My son left on the same day. Where did your son leave from? I have already gotten his address and mailed him two letters. I love this site.

My daughter left for GL on 10/4 too. Having no communication has been really hard. Now I'm trying to look ahead and plan for PIR, which I hear is the day before Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure. I haven't gotten the packet yet. This last week has been so emotional!!
