Happy Memorial Day to all! As I watched the Today show this morning, they showed different people honoring our fallen heroes. Of course, tears filled my eyes. Although I have always appreciated our military, I was never very involved. With my son's upcoming departure, I now have a deeper connection with our service men and women. I feel so grateful for their sacrifice of time away from their loved ones. I am especially thankful for the ones who have fought for us and lost their lives defending my right to be free. With a heartfelt salute, I thank you!
I find myself watching the military channel, reading newspaper articles, and searching online for all things Navy. My son's quest for adventure is certainly broadening my horizon! I have a lot to learn as a Navy mom, and love that I am meeting people who share my journey. I am even learning some of the lingo: pt, DEP, PIR, rating, and more.
High school graduation is Friday, then we are down to about 9 weeks until Aaron ships out. How can a heart hold all of these emotions? He thinks I'm crazy when I cry spontaneously. Last night, I went to my niece's graduation party. As her parents cried, I joined in. Both of my sons looked at me like I was some kind of nut. Adam cracked me up! He said that mom's are a lot like babies. When one mom sees another one cry, she begins crying, too. Yup! That about sums it up. I am regressing into a big old cry-baby. It's all good, though. Today I am not crying (well not right now anyway).
Enjoy your holiday. I will say a special prayer for our current heroes out there. May God keep them safe.
Aaron's Mom, very well said! You've come to the right place to share your thoughts and questions. Congrats to your son in his choice to serve our country! P.S., it's okay to be a cry baby ya know.....we all understand :o)
