My boy just picked his Navy career

I pushed this idea.

I have this amazingly intelligent kid that chose not to "excel or stand out " in anything.  He made good grades, he was in Marching Band, he was in Boy Scouts - he did however get his Eagle Scout (at the 11th hour).... But otherwise nothing "overly outstanding".   He tends to float through life almost undetected - except for being "the kid that never causes any problems and is a pleasure to be around".  I had a teacher describe him one time as the "cool side of your pillow".  That pretty much says it all....

I made a prayerful decision to promote the military to this boy who had no clue what to do with his life.  People have asked me and still ask me - "aren't you terrified?  Why would you want him to go into the military?"  My answer.... I would be proud and honored for my child to serve our country.  I trust that my child will be okay and we have no control over when our time comes in life.  I have been blessed with the gift of this child and I trust I will be blessed with his presence for many years to come.

Come to find out, this kid who has no idea what he wants to do with his life is excited about his military career... even looking at the possibility of a 20 year career.  This unassuming kid, tested so high on his ASVAB that he is being asked to test for even more exciting career opportunities within the NAVY.    Much to my surprise, he selected HM - Hospital Corpsman, unless he tests high enough to be considered for other opportunities.  His recruiter said hands down that he was the easiest recruit he has EVER worked with.  No problems, No skeletons in the closet, No legal problems, etc...- except for that 18th birthday tattoo. :)   I know that all of that is a God thing and me being a constantly present parent.

Does my heart drop every single time I think about this beautiful, precious, first born baby boy, leaving home and facing unknown dangers?  YES.  Do I believe he will be surrounded by the safest, most courageous young men (and women) also defending our country - as well as their brothers.... YES.  Do I know in my heart that this will turn out to be the most rewarding experience of his life.... YES.

I will pray daily as I have since before he was born for God's grace, mercy and protection.

I am so PROUD.  My cup runneth over!
