My daughter left for Basic this past Monday, July 25th. When she called after her arrival, she sounded distraught.....I am new to this page and branch of service, so forgive me if I ask alot of questions. How long till she calls again? How long til I get her address? How long til the box gets mailed?

This is a very good site for you to get valuable information and also support.  When the recruits first arrive, they are overwhelmed and stressed.  This is to be expected.  The first few days really suck.  You should get a form letter with her address and PIR date in about a week and a half.  The box will come in about a week.  It is really important to know that no news is good news.  First call should be about week 3 or 4.  Eight weeks is a relatively short period of time.  When you see your daughter as a new Sailor at PIR, you will expode with pride.  Best wishes to you and your recruit.

Thanks. I have a son in the AF so the Navy terms are alot difference. When she called Sunday and talked to her dad, I guess she was overwhelemed, excited, nervous, sleepy....all the above. He kept telling her to calm down. Thanks for the information. I found the week to week info as well as some surveys I'll send to her.

My son left for basic on Monday, July 25th as well... Where did you find the week to week info? I missed the phone call when he got RTC.  However, he did call his dad and talked to him.   I was so upset that I missed what would be his last call for awhile.  He did mention the box being mailed to me.

i got my box 3 days after he arrived.  He left on Father's day...first letter was 2 weeks out and first real phone call was 3 1/2 weeks later...be sure to send your SR a pre-paid land line phone card - you can activate it from your home - i hear that if they activate at Great Lakes - it eats a whole bunch of minutes.  i have gotten 10 letters since the end of June.  They have free time for 5 hours each Sunday - to go to church, write or socialize.  They will have to earn every privilege they get - including letters & phone calls...I know it's hard - but when they open those doors at PIR, you are going to want to run to your SR - but, please don't, lol.  also, www.bootcamp.navy.mil is a  great read, on facebook you can go to Recruit Training Command  and learn allot from the RTC site...Blessings, CIndy
