My daughter left to boot camp July 28th

My only child, my daughter left to boot camp July 28th. It's been very hard every day since. I have been crying every day. I raised her as a single mother. My heart feels so heavy. I don't even want to go home from work anymore because my place feels so empty without her now. It hurts to even look at her stuff or even walk pass them. To make matters worst her dog is missing her so much too. Sometimes he'll go sit by the door wait for her to walk in. He's been sulking around a lot too. Just breaks my heart. I feel so sad. She was always with me never stayed anywhere for more then a week. It's a tough week for me and her little shihtzu/maltese. I already recieved her box of clothes two days ago. When I opened it I sobbed and sobbed. Been writing to her already looking forward to a letter from her.

Tanya'smom- I just received the formal letter today, I am sure you will get it before the weekend is up. How are you holding up? I continue to pray for us all to ease our heavy hearts.

No letter today. Hope and pray for the form letter tomorrow. Waiting to hear from recruiter about her address and they hope to let us know on Monday. So happy for all of you who have received your letters and information. I'm working the next 3 days, so I'll be busy and look forward to some good news.

Tanya'smom- So happy for you! Such an emotional rollercoaster. We took our 12 year old son school shopping and all I could think about was my girl, hard to focus on anything right now.

I'm sorry to hear. I got two letters from my daughter today. She said she's really homesick. She misses me and her dog. I cried, I really hope it gets better for them.

Calls and letters early on do indicate homesickness and some who are questioning their decision, but usually within a week or so the recruits start working together and really training and the recruits are less homesick and are focused on becoming Sailors and most of them will go on to be Sailors.

Just keep encouraging them and let them know how proud you are of them and how much you are looking forward to seeing them in their dress whites at PIR. (They switch over to dress blues in October.)
