Hello my recruit left on September 18, 2018 and I know they mail all his stuff and phone back, but someone told me that once we get the box with his things, in 3 weeks we can send it back. Is this true? Will he be able to message us and call us normally?

No, it is not true. Your recruit is issued the only clothing he can wear, and he cannot have his phone until after PIR. You do not mail his things back to him.

Phone calls are random, and are usually made Mon - Thur, and Sat from 8am to 8pm CST, and on Friday and Sunday they usually don't start until 1pm. There is no messaging available. His first phone call will come at about three weeks.

Ok yeah I thought so. Is there something we have to send back? Like reading on here I’ve read about cards so they can call us or something?

NavyGF, my son refused to take a phone card. (He didn’t want to bother with it) so I’m no sure if I’m going to get a call or not. I’m thinking I will send him a phone card once we get their address which should be soon.

Laurel, thank you. That is super helpful. I could not picture how he was going to make any purchases. Got it now.

So then even if I don’t send him a call card he still will be able to call me?

Comment by NavyGfJackie on September 24, 2018 at 8:26pm

Ok and another question, after PIR do they get to come home with us? Or when do they get to come home from bootcamp?

NavyGF. I sent you a private message asking you what your BF’s A school is. I too might be able to help you out. Definitely join the Boot Camp Moms group. You will learn so much!! I can help you navigate. What happened after graduation all depends on what his A school is (What his job will be)

I’m glad you asked these questions because my son also left September 18th and i was wondering the same thing.

You might want to check out Sandboxx.  I heard other people talking about it, so I checked it out and actually sent my 1st letter via Sandboxx to my recruit today!  The cool thing is they say he will get the letter a lot faster, AND it includes an pre addressed and stamped return envelope (maybe my recruit will get the hint? LOL)  You can also attach a photo (but not a PDF)
