My suggestions: Stay on this website! We know how you are feeling, there are tons of answers here and even more support for you. Also, for me, it helped to go to his actual swearing in at MEPS the day he left. It was hard. Emotional, sad and proud. (I'm tearing up again just telling you about it). But I am so glad I went. I took that day off of work and went home and cried--a lot. Another suggestion--try not to worry about him in boot camp. Easier said than done--but he is being taken care of--he's eating good meals--learning much about himself--and he is working so hard that he is sleeping at night! No news is good news. If something is wrong--you get a phone call. So TRY not to worry. Any questions,,,come on here and ask! I wish you and you boy well!

You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in March.  You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

have fun. do what he wants. cook his favorite meal. keep positive. it's okay to cry, but let him know its tears of joy and that you are so proud of him. i agree, MEPS was very hard for me. He will meet amazing friends while in boot camp. stay on this website, it helps.

agree with going to meps with him. my sailor said it went by really fast and it wasnt as bad as he expected it to be. make sure he has all the phone numbers and address's he will want while he is down there. remember to stay stong and keep focused on the future he will have ahead of him. way easier said then done. everyone on here is so nice and helpful so you will never feel alone. good luck to the both of you!!!

I found so many on my son., like I was actually there!  lol

Spend whatever time you can with him. Acknowledge that there will be difficult days but it's expected and once boot camp is over they aren't his problem anymore (my son is on the plane there now). We'll always be here for them and I can't wait to see him in his dress whites!

I did spend the day at MEPS and the airport with him. I guess only do this if you can handle it. I did cry when leaving him, but who wouldn't?

I was the "champ" while my sailor was at basic.  I bought cards and wrote a small bit of info everyday......I sent pictures at the very least 5 of the 7 times a note card went out.  He totally loved it.....it makes them beyond happy to recieve "ANYTHING" from home.  I made it a point to do just that.  I ONLY wrote positive things........he later said it was a huge help to get through ANY day.  Sad.....but true......he said "Mom, is it ok if I throw away some of the cards you have sent........hahahahahahaha.......yes Champ........it's totally ok!!
