How old is he? My son said that in his Senior Yr and we said no. He went to College for 3 1/2 yrs and was never really happy, and didn't do that great. I often think back and maybe I should have said Yes the first time he asked. Let him meet with a recruiter and talk about it, then see what he tells you. I say if he is ready let him join it has been WONDERFUL for our Son. Enjoy the ride it has been great for me so far. Good Luck to you and your Son. If you stay on this site you will also make some great friends.

Thank You both soo much for responding. My son is 21 ,has been goin to the community college in the area for over 2 years. He also has not been happy with how things are going ,kind of lost you could say.He seems really interested in joining the Navy ,has accumulated alot of information on his own. Thanks for the advice ,very comforting to hear from others with experience. Thanks Again

Pamelasue, he sounds very mature in thinking this out......it's tough to let them make their own decisions about where they want to go.  It might not be what we, as Mothers want for them.  But the two don't always agree, right?  He's 21 and sounds as if he's in the right place to make a decision.  It isn't easy but this is the road of life.....for them and for us as Mothers.  You've definitely come to the right place to talk about this so hang around.  You will find that unless someone has military involvement of some nature, they can't relate.

my son came to me his senior year and out of the blue said he wanted to join the military.  I also was so scared, sad,,,,but i see how happy he is with his decision and will be leaving Aug. 22nd for boot camp.  Good luck and it will all work out.  I am very proud of him.  Good luck again!

Thanks so much again for all whom are sharing there stories with me. I appreciate the input. Its hard to understand and figure all this out when it is so foreign a subject. This sight is wonderful and extremely uplifting.

Our only son; Charlie was one semester away from graduating college and decided to join.  He was never in love with school anyway.   While I (selfish me) wish he had graduated, it only goes to prove that he is still a smart man, with ambition and social responsibility.  He'll graduate while he's in - I'll bet on it.  Maybe OCS - who knows.  :-)   Ship 02, Div 927

Pamelasue, he is just growing up. sometimes we have to let go and let them grow, mature. I know it is hard to take, but believe the Navy will take good care of him. You will see alot of remarkable changes. He's maturing. Hang in there, honey!

My son told me years ago (he's 20 now) that he wanted to join the military. I figured he would change his mind thru the years but he never did. This is his 3rd week of boot camp and I spoke to him today for the 1st time in 3 weeks. I can't believe how he has matured & the amount of self-confidence the Navy has given him. No college in the world would have done that for him. Be proud & supportive of his decision. That's all we can really do anyway...
