On Monday, I said goodbye to my son, my one and only child, the love of my life. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.  Everyone says, "It's only eight weeks."  What they don't realize is that Boot Camp is eight weeks.  Then, he's off to A School in Pensicola, Florida (we live in California), and no telling where he'll be after that.  So, no, it's a lot longer than eight weeks.  I have one of my son's sweatshirts that I won't wash because it smells like him.  Am I crazy?!  I love that he has such a loving, absolutely wonderful girlfriend, but I hate that I'm not the one that he calls when he gets to call home.  God Bless all Navy Moms!

Thanks, all. It's nice to hear from others that have either been in the same situation or are going through it at the same time.  I'm also glad that I get the "heads up" on what is to come.

LeAudrey, I was right where you were just a few months ago. Lean on the others on this site and we will be there to hold you up. My son will PIR (graduate) on April 22. In the beginning I thought the day would never come but now I can't believe it is almost there. The first week I would go from smiling to hysteria in 2 seconds flat but now after a few letters a calls, I can see how happy and exited he is, That has given me much more comfort. Hang in there, we are all here for you.

I'm right there with you Mama. Tuesday will be 3 weeks and I am thinking of nothing else but getting that 3 week call. Jacob is my only child also and it's SO hard sitting here all alone hopeing he's making friends and staying positive. We just need to remember how strong our sons are and we brought them up to be the wonderful men that they are. After all, if it wasn't for us - they wouldn't be strong enough to be Navy men!
