I'm of course very new to all of this, but I would like to say that I am getting so much good information from everyones blogs.  I do have some questions though.  My first one is, what does PIR stand for.  Like I said, I'm new.  I'm doing better each day emotionally, but I still have my moments.  My son left on Monday, Dec. 13th and I'm starting to get anxious for the form letter, the date of graduation, etc.  I thought that yesterday was going to be the worst.  It was his 19th birthday.  But I made it.  Yea!!!  Knowing that GOD is watching over him makes me get through this.  With that said, if anyone can offer any advice or may even know when I can expect "the box", the letter, etc. I would greatly appreciate it.  Also, I got a little nervous last night thinking about what to say to him when he makes his first phone call.  I don't want to sound sad.  I cry so easily when I get sad and I don't want him to hear me cry.  I want to be strong for him.

Thank you so much for the advice about searching for other info.. I did that the other day and that's how I finally was able to laugh again.  Everyone so far has been amazing to me... This is by far the most helpful place for me.  I had a rough day today after folding some of my Recruits clothes, but  a little prayer and a little cry got me through it and I feel much better now....  I did get some advice from a facebook friend that did say that if your recruit has a birthday, not to send him/her a birthday card because the chiefs will make it hard on them if you do.. Not sure what was meant by that, but I take all the advice I can get.  I want to be as peaceful as possible... I don't want to add any fuel to a fire....

Finally go the first letter.  It was like winning the lottery.  The four lines at the bottom written by him was the best...  It seemed like forever but it was nice to receive it and take a deep breath finally...  Thank you everyone for the uplifting words... GO NAVY!!

I too am new to this . My son left Dec. 6th.  The first call was too short & I did not do well receiving the box. I am worried I will tell him how much I miss him when he calls so I liked seeing the comments about that.  My mind runs all day with thoughts of him.  I like having a place to go for information.

Hey there Mindy... I am with you.. This site is great.  Hang in there.. I feel like already know you just by what you are going through... It's so hard to let those babies go, huh?  But we do know the next time we see them, they will be men.. That's awesome to think about..  I actually even took my son's coat and hung it in my closet so I could have it close by.. Corny maybe, but I don't care... He did have to call home for a short few minutes to get information for papework and he sounded great.  Tired but great.. He is still gung ho about all of this.. Do a friend invite and we can talk more... Hang in there and may GOD BLESS you during this time and alway.

I am new to this too, my sons pir is coming up jan 7th, very excited to finally see him. It has been very hard since he has been away for all the holidays. It a big adjustment for all of us. His 2 younger brothers are having a ard time as well. We cant afford for all of us to attend his graduation so they are sad. We send lettters back and forth, my younger sons sent him pictures of when they were little on santa lap.He my sailor got a kick outta that! Anyway..so glad to be able to connect to other Moms who are going through this. It sad to be away from them but at the same time I have never been so proud!....anyway hope you all have a Happy New Year! looking forward to the upcoming pir....
