OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I'm new to this site and I have found it very helpful. My husband is a recruit @ GL PIR 02/26. I'm from Norfolk, VA originally (Oceana) but after my father retired in '94 we settled in Georgia where I finished school and met a wonderful man I married. A year ago he came home from being laid off and he looked at me and said "I joined the Navy." I said "You did what?" I couldn't believe fate had brought me back to the place my life began. But here I am- and I am so proud. I look forward to this opportunity and the adventure. I thank each and every service member and his or her family as we all take these steps (somewhat) together. I believe in my heart my husband has made the best decision. We are a little old to be starting this life... but better late than never! You are all in my prayers as I hope we are in all of yours!

I would love to do just that! I sent you a friend request so that we may talk further. Bless him he had Boot Camp in GL and now A school! How much longer does he have up there? Rick's A school is in Pensacola- unless he changed rates which he was hoping to do- but he was struggling with getting an age waiver.

Hi Leeletta ! Thank you for the warm welcome. My name is Amber by the way I don't think I have posted that anywhere.
So your son is in Norfolk, that's where I am from originally. My dad was an AO and we were stationed there for many years. The biggest thing I miss is the annual Pungo Strawberry Festival. Every May that's how you knew spring was upon you and the promise that summer was soon to follow.
I also have a cousin that is just back from Japan. He was there for 9 years, I think. He talks about it alot, I think he really liked it there.

I respect Rick for being pro-active in joining the Navy. You are never too old to be learning and furthering your education. My sister is 67, she just enrolled at a UC college to get her Phd. You should not neglect your education either. There are many wonderful women/men on this site. You are about to have 20,000 "substitute/adopted/second" N4M moms/dads.

Ralph Waldo Emerson- make the most of yourself for that is all there is of you.

You can never have enough friends and family!
