Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I have not had any contact from my son for close to a month now and I am very concerned. He is stationed upon the U.S.S. George Washington. I do not know what to do. I have been praying for his safety every day and every night. His siblings are also worried. We were able to communicate on Facebook before they left port. Now he does not answer our posts. When he did call home the quality of the phone calls was poor to say the least. Is this normal?  Do they not have a better way for these boys to phone home and be heard and understood, and hear and understand in return? I would expect more from the U.S. Navy, or perhaps it is my son's phone and connection.  I am so confused I do not know how this whole thing works. Can someone out there let me know what is supposed to happen and how to deal with all of this. We miss him so much and want to know that he is safe.

Has he given your information to the Ombudsman?

You can join the group, USS George Washington Sailors (clickable link), to connect with others with loved ones serving wth your Sailor.

When at sea, contact can decline. We have to always remember, "No news is good news!" If you hear nothing, all is well with him.

it can be as long six weeks without contact emails are the best way to contact your son.

Don't panic for another 3 weeks. We went 7 weeks w/o email, phone, snail, text. He didn't do Facebook. We survived. I assure you they are very busy working 24/7. When they are not working, they are sleeping, eating and trying to catch up with chores like laundry. Everything is OK.

As someone said email is best but you will need to know his email address which he would have received and not his general email. The Navy provides him with one. Best thing is to send a snail mail letter requesting he send it to you if you do not have it at this time. If they put into port he can call but that can be a challenge too. If he has his cellphone and is set up to make international calls then he could call.  Hope this helps some.
