My daughter was scheduled to graduate Dec 13, 2013. I got a call the 11th telling us she would not graduate because she failed the running test. (Thankfully we had planned on driving) That is all the information she gave us over the phone. We read and researched about what happens from this point forward. Then she calls on the 19th to tell us her new ship and division and what steps she is taking to pass and nothing she tells us matches with what her father and I had read about. She was supposed to start A school the 6th of January in Charleston, SC. I've called the local recruiters and i've called the PAO office at the RTC (still haven't spoken to a live person) to get information as to what happens if she doesn't pass before Dec 30th (the deadline for her to get to Nuke A school) and I guess I'm most upset about the fact that I did not get a phone call on Christmas. I understand that the phone privileges have been taken away until their status changes, but no call on Christmas? I will try again on Monday to call and get answers.but if anyone has ideas I could use some help.

She is in Div 2444, but according to her last letter she just has to shave 62 seconds off and one of the Petty Officers has offered to "pace" her in the next run, so we can only hope that she will pass soon.

That is good that she was able to shave that much off. Having one of the Petty Officers pace her may help.

Sorry for butting in, but lemonelephant, what did you mean in your last comment to TanyaD? You can tell by the Division number whether your SR is on track for fitness? My daughter arrived at RTC late last night (I got the scripted call a little after midnight this am) and she wasn't able to meet the requirements for the run or push ups. Her recruiters and I told her that she wasn't "expected" to meet or beat reqs day 1 but that she would be trained to be able to meet them. (Of course it would have been nice if she had trained harder while she had the opportunity - thank God she can swim!) I am hearing that she can't promote to E-2 without BOTH the academic & the physical qualifications. Is this true? Also, if she doesn't meet the deadline for something and misses her original Division's PIR date then she doesn't get to graduate at all?

A FIT division is a special division for those who have failed the PFA--usually not the first one. We hear more about the FIT division for those who fail the third PFA near the end of BC, but some recruits are moved to FIT after the second PFA. FIT is divided into three groups, Ship 4 Div 2347 (for those who failed the run by less than a minute), Ship 4 Div 2444 (for those who filed the run by more than a minute), and Ship 4 Div 2381 (for those who failed any part of the swim test). (See FIT in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).)

No, she will not be advanced in BC to E-2 automatically if she does not pass the initial PFA with a SAT-MED even if she does pass a written multiple choice test over the DEP PQS material with 80% or above. There will be other recruits who are not advanced as well. (See E-1, E-2, or E-3? How did that happen?.)

If she does not pass all of the PFA before BST, then no, she won't have PIR on time, if at all. The info in Battle Stations-21 (BST) explains how that works.

Don't borrow trouble. She just arrived. See the info in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and just take things one day at a time and start writing encouraging letters now even though you can't mail them until you get the form letter and mail them out as soon as you get that--make a special trip to the post office if you have to. Have faith in her and let her know that you expect to be there at PIR and are looking forward to hugging her as a US Navy Sailor.

I've probably used terms that are new to you. they are all in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).

Can anyone tell me if a SR gets discharged what the process usually is.

Alaskandov, from other comments he has not been moved to SEPS. Don't borrow trouble. He is expected to PIR on time until he tells you he has been moved to SEPS.
