What a hectic few weeks it's been! Ning, the company who hosts this site and handles the "technical" side of things, has been releasing lots of changes to their networks including Navy For Moms. I wanted to share with you everything they have announced and would love to hear your opinion in the comments section below. Here we go...

Private messages now have an increased character limit. This means you'll have more room to write your PM without having to send a second message to continue what you're saying!

E-Mail Notification overhaul including:
- An option to receive an email when a new member joins our community. Great for all of you moms who like to greet the newbies.
- More options to "Follow" content including Forum Categories, Photos, Videos, and Member Pages
- Notifications of replies that were posted after yours on any item you commented on
- Group notifications when someone joins a group you are a member of. Great for creators and admins of Groups who want to greet their new members.
- Notifications when your comment is featured by an admin (me)

*All of these can be adjusted when you visit your Settings link (top right) and then click on Email Settings. You can pick and chose which types of notifications you receive.

*I've had reports come in about email notifications acting up lately (ie. not receiving any). I've sent a note to Ning about this, but it helps if you send them a report directly. You can do so by visiting help.ning.com and clicking "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page. You'll need to log in with your N4M email and password before you can submit your issue.

Additional changes:
- "Friends Only" content will no longer appear on the Main Page's Latest Activity Feed
- "Send A Message" links replaced the "Add A Friend" link. This means you will be prompted to add someone as a friend before you send them a message.
- "Previous" and "Next" have replaced the numbers at the bottom of content pages. I personally find this frustrating and hope they go back to the number format. Let me know if you feel the same.
- Blog comment order has been reversed so that new comment appear on the last page. Let me know if you prefer it the old way - it's an easy change.

Phew. Lots of stuff to take in, right?

If you want more details, check out the information Ning posted here, here, and here.

Thanks for your patience as we navigate these changes together!

*UPDATE* New word from Ning - Page #'s will be returning soon! Woo hoo! :)

JunieB - I understand. You'd like to see them in reverse order so posts begin with page 1 and then count forward to page 20, etc.

Thanks for all the thoughts so far. I do hope Ning makes the change to revert to a numbering system. I will be letting them know that the community wants to see this happen. Fingers crossed.

Regarding duplicate posts/blogs - this is a known issue that I have reported. It seems that there is sometimes a lag between posting something and it appearing which is the root of this bug.

Keep the feedback coming!

ADN - I'm actually working on ways to make the site easier for new members to navigate. Maybe I'll post a blog where all of you can express what you would like to see or what you had the hardest time figuring out so I can shape my solution around that :)

For the comment order (newest at the top or oldest at the top) I'll likely switch it back to the old format. Not even sure why this switch was made but a quick fix on my end if we decide to adjust it.

I asked NING if they could help us with groups. I have 5 groups I would like to put on the top of my list and would like a click and drag detail. They said basically the option to leave and rejoin groups would put them at the top of my list. Well, how would that work if you are the "author" of the page? Doesn't make sense to me.

I would also like to see the numbers on the bottom of the page come back. I find it hard to figure out which "previous" page I want. Thanks for all the work and the support.

would also like to have the numbers back so it's easier to review when away from the computer for a few days. I feel like I'm "missing something"!

PLEASE bring back the numbers! It is so much easier for reviewing. Now I just give up trying to figure out how far back I have to go.

I just can't find the pages to catch up on. It is frustrating!!
Comment by Mary (Chris' mom) on November 23, 2009 at 11:45am
I agree about the page numbers being easier to find, navigate, and discuss. I'm happy they will change it back for us.
Comment by carol on January 26, 2010 at 9:22pm
Carole, I also agree. It was a high point of the day, when I saw the page numbers were back :)
I do find it frustrating to get to the top of the page, only to go back to the bottom to continue. Maybe that will be the next thing!!!
