Our son arrived at basic training yesterday. Bittersweet day for Mom. I've been told "remember your a Navy Mom now, you have to be strong." I'm strong but first I am a Mom and that is my son so it has been a bit emotional at times. He's wanted this ever since he was a young boy and now it's here, he's living it. We are so proud of him. All the unknowns are what seem to be on my mind. Since he just arrived there in GL yesterday how and when will we find out when his graduation date is? I'd like to book the plane tickets asap since it will be December and with holiday rates I figured the earlier the better. Does anyone have any ideas how I can obtain that information or do I just wait until the packet comes in the mail in 3 or so weeks.

Still adjusting to that empty room down the hall, it's hard but I keep focused and smile because I am so proud of him and what he is doing does and will make a difference in the world. We are blessed our sons and daughters have such honor.

Welcome!!!! You can call his recruiter and get his address, usually within 72 hours. Just because you are a Navy Mom doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't be emotional. You'll find alot of information here and at RTC's website as well. There is never a stupid question and there is almost always some who will have answers. We are all in this together and will be here when you need us.

Ok, I was just wondering.  My boy left on Tue. Oct. 4th and his recruiter told us it would be either Nov. 23rd or Dec. 2nd so I was having a moment of panic LOL  I can't believe how quickly you got your box AND letter.  I'm hoping for the same speed :)

I can't believe he got to call twice on that following Sat.  How lucky are you!  I'm happy for you!  Thank you for the smiles :)

I am so thankful to have come across this website as reading all of the comments it made me smile and a sigh of relief. When I received the scripted call last night that he had arrived I felt my heart sink and when I hung up the tears just flowed. Probably relief he was safely there and just the realization that our son had just begun the beginning of his own life making his future. I sensed some sadness in his voice but I'm sure the whole thing has been pretty overwhelming and I'm sure that lack of sleep has played a role too! Funny but sad, the two puppies seem blue and miss him too. I know he's going to do great it's just this is HUGE! It's a brave step for a promising future and time just flys and has flown by. Seems like yesterday he learned how to tie his shoes and we were playing hide and seek and making forts with his little sister. Ok not yesterday but good grief it's as if time has been on warp speed and now here we are. But I / we are thankful for the blessing of all the days and look forward to him graduating basic. I can so relate to MomSlice - I told my husband and best friend (her son just graduated Marine basic a few months ago) if he's sad I will have to bust him out and go on covert mission. We Mom's would move heaven and Earth for our kids, never underestimate the power of a Mother I told him. He laughed but a nervous laugh lol. I so hope he is metting some guys that he connects with. Mom always thinks we don't want our kids to feel lonely. Thank you all for posting notes. It helps.  I wish you all a blessed and happy evening! Thanks for the laughs and smiles, I so needed them.

MySonMyHero - you are most definitely not alone and in very good company.  It has been so comforting to me to read comments by other mom's...someone always says the exact thing I need to hear at the exact time.  You are right, we would move heaven and earth for our kids, and they know it too :)  That's why they are counting on us for support and love and understanding.  They won't know, until they are parents' themselves, just how hard this journey was for us, and when they finally do understand, they'll love us even more for making the sacrifice of letting them go with our blessings :)  Have a wonderful evening !

Denise (A Seabee Mom). I didn't have a choice of not calling the recruiter. My exhusband wouldn't share the information on the form. I waited two weeks, called several time and left messages, sent emails and still no reply from him. I had to contact his recruiter. I got this piece of information from the Moms here that replied to my question about this situation. My son got every piece of mail I've sent, I know this because he's answered my questions and thanked me for the phone cards. Warm hugs to all.
