Hi & welcome!!
You might want to check the school's web site... i have 2 in NROTC & their school's site has a good NROTC link. There is a lot on info on it regarding everything from Fr O week through commissioning.
At MU [my MIDN's school] the MIDN get khaki uniforms at FrO. Parents are invited to the "Oath of Office" swearing in ceremony. The parents are also invited to a brief orientation/question/answer time at the beginning of FrO.
As Carolyn said, it is different for every school.
Look through the posts or join the group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/rotc [NROTC] ... you might be able to find your answers there.
@ Carolyn: your description sounds like what I sort of thought it would be. And, yes, my son has staying in shape throughout the summer. When he got official word that he'd be in NROTC, he just bumped it up a notch. there's always room for improvement, but at least he's on top of this portion (thank goodness). Yes, he's Marine Option. He'll be attending Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego, Ca.
@ Jn/Jf Mom: There isn't much on the school's website. He'll be at a cross-town affiliate and it just refers us back to the school where all the training and such will be held. There is a slight "mention" of a swearing in ceremony, a question/answer portion and a picnic - but no true details (time, location, length, etc.). I've joined the NROTC group and have been searching through posts and such. Much of what I found was boot camp related. Thanks for your help.
ha ha -- yes! we did get the list of things to bring. :-)
San Diego is nice and really only about 2 hours away from our home. MCRD, huh? what a coincidence!
Thanks for the Gen Orders link and all the other info.
Heard from my "adopted" son last night who is doing Freshman O @ LSU. He says they are "getting yelled at, drilling, marching, getting yelled at, pt and getting yelled at." He loves it but is a bit jealous that his "sister" is getting to shoot and do the O course / Ldrship challenge course, rappelling, along with the yelling, drilling, marching & pt. They are both finished later today so I'm anxious to hear all the details. My daughter said they were taking an academic exam today and the two platoons were competing for the "golden boot" award.
