My son left for boot camp 1 week ago today.  I'm still feeling sad, happy for him at the same time but not what I expected.  Very difficult not being able to talk to him and at least get an idea of how he is feeling.  Being able to encourage him through things I guess was more helpful for me than I realized, cause that is what parents do. I know he has made a great choice and Im confident he will do fine.  Looking forward to boot camp graduation but in the back of my mind I know I'm going to have to let him go again.  :(.

My son joined last may 2013. I have went through a lot of ups and downs missing him. BUT I'm so proud of him. It's what he choose to do. I support him. During boot camp always keep your phone on you especially on Sundays. He will call you. He will also write you. I cherished my letters. Graduation day is great to see all the men and women come through the doors as sailors. I couldn't of been more proud of all of them and yes I cried.

My son left one week ago today as well. It's not quite what I expected either but am very proud of him!  We received the box of dirty stinky clothes today.  I can't wait to get the mail to tell us his address and graduation date.  Is your son with the 56th Cardinal Company?

My son also left for boot camp on Aug, 5th. He is our only child so, the quiet in the house is very difficult. We are both very proud of him and know that he will do well. My husband is also a Navy Vet so understands much of what is going on and explains each step. Receiving the dirty clothes in the box, that was handwritten out by him was very traumatic for me but, the letter from him in regards to graduation etc came the same day so the day was full of many emotions. His graduation is Oct. 3rd and that was what we thought so I had the hotel booked already. Not sure any one knows this answer but, as far as I know he can stay at the hotel on the night of the graduation. Does he then go back the next day to RTC and they take him to the airport? It sounds like we can meet him at the airport to hand him his phone etc.

Unless your son is stationed in Great lakes after boot camp he has to go back to his room. You get to have him after graduation till about 8pm. He has to stay in his uniform that whole time. I met my son at 4am Saturaday at O'hare airport gave him his phone and some civilian clothes to take with him till I could send the rest. They don't have a lot of room in there bag for civilian clothes. I also gave my son his laptop with briefcase to carry it.  My son left at 7am I was able to escort him up to the gate as a visitor. Just saying you don't get a lot of sleep or rest from the night before graduation till Saturday afternoon. But it wass was so exciting it didn't matter about sleep or rest.

williewish, no new Sailor is authorized to have overnight Liberty PIR weekend. Those who remain in GL for "A" School or training will have daytime Liberty each day of the weekend after checking in across the street. Your comment about the airport would indicate that you believe that your then Sailor will fly out. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend. What is your recruit's rating (job/specialty) going to be? Knowing that will help you to know how to plan for the weekend.
