I'm new here and i just want to thank you ladies for the insight. I am grateful for Navy for Moms, it has been a blessing for me. However; i'm a mess. My son just left on Veterans Day, November 11, 2013 and i'm still crying. I thought i was the only one feeling like i've lost my son but after reading some of the post, i see i'm not the only one. I do know this pain won't go away until i reunite with my son again either by letter or phone call. I CAN'T WAIT! Right now i'm still crying and longing for him at this time. Again thank you ladies because i do find some comfort in reading your post. Thank You, and Good Luck to your sons and daughter!

Hang in there! It does get better. When my son left, it was like I was mourning his loss. A huge part of me was gone, like someone ripped my heart out. This site was very helpful. Just a warning though..... that first phone call you get, he may be very homesick and he may cry but it will get better for him. Just encourage him. When I got the first call from my son, he was homesick and would get chocked up. I was so upset but I held it together until I got off the phone and then I cried and I cried and I cried some more. He called a couple of days later and he was so much better. Every call after that was an improvement. So, just know it will get easier, maybe not right away but it will. Just keep coming to this site for comfort. I wish your son good luck and that special day will be here before you know it.

My son flies out on Tuesday. Going out to dinner one last time....I find myself wiping my tears in stores, at home, while driving, even at work. I'm having a hard time also. I won't see his face in the mornings or hear his voice say hi mom....I'm a mess also...

Thank you NavyProud for the encouragement, i sure do need it now. I know it will get better, it's just not being able to talk with him. Every time i see something that remind me of him, i cry. This is terrible, i find myself crying over anything. He's only been gone a week to this day but it feels like a month. I am very grateful for moms like you here on Navy for moms. Thank you for sharing and Good Luck to you and your son.

Hi annieherbie, just so you know. You can never prepare for this feeling. I'm able to go into his room long enough to wash his clothes but not without crying. All the moms here says it gets better, so i'm waiting on that day to come. Good Luck to you and your son.

mustang - I haven't been on here for awhile.  My son graduated from BC on 11-8.  To go back and read how all the new moms are feeling makes me feel so bad for all of you.  I was the exact same way.  From the day we left him after the swearing in ceremony until probably week 4, I was so sad all the time.  The first 3 weeks were the worst and every time I thought about him I would cry. The day he was traveling up to boot camp, I told my husband I wanted to go get him and bring him home. lol  But then I would think also how proud I was of him.

Now that he has graduated and is in the Great Lakes for training (which is on hold), I feel so much better.  As everyone says, it is hard for awhile and you feel such a loss, but then it takes a turn and gets so much better.  I talk to him all the time now when he has free time.  Sometimes his dad feels left out when I get the phone calls from him. lol  Yesterday he called me 3 different times because he was doing his laundry for the first time.  It was great!  I told him a few more times and he would be a pro.  Luckily we have this site to go to, and it truly helps.  Good luck with everything!  It will all turn out wonderful and you will be so proud of him from here on out.
