Just returned from RTC and PIR. A few things to pass on to families visiting for the first time. The Navy Base has 3 motels on the grounds plus the Navy Lodge. Navy Lodge is being renovated but is still open. Area motels are very friendly and helpful to the families. Most have special rates for recruit families, call and ask for the discount when booking. There may be 3-4 Meet and Greet on the same night. The one Sarge does at the Sundance Saloon was very informative, he had a slide show that showed the local area. His information about traffic the morning of PIR was most helpful. He was also very reasonable with transportation to-from airport and to PIR . As my sailor was leaving for school the morning after PIR he provided my transportation to O'Hare (&back) so I could spend time with my sailor before his flight that afternoon.
I did not leave for home until Mon. I depended on Sarge for all my transportation & was grateful for his service. Everyone was very courteous & helpful. One mother had 2 small children, a car seat, plus a stroller; they were all handled with kindness & professionalism. Sarge made sure they were not just dropped at the curb and left on their own.
After talking with other families I know I got a bargain by booking with Sarge. Hope you find this information helpful.
You mention 3 motels on base plus the Navy Lodge. Please elaborate. I am familiar with the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites, which is located on the main part of the base across the street from the RTC, and the Navy Lodge, which is located off base in the Forestal Village Housing area.
how was the navy lodge, i got two room for PIR 8/16 is the renovating bad ..

Abby you are correct about the Navy Lodging requirements. I meant that for the families that are entitled, sorry.
I did not stay on base. My brother & his wife stayed at the Navy Gateway & said there was 2 other motels on base.... sure these are also for military connected also. Have no other info.
The people who stayed at the Navy lodge commented on the renovations and the noise, others didn't seem to mind. Said the staff was great and the food good.
It is important to note that a recruit (new Sailor) can sponsor guests at either the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites or Navy Lodge PIR weekend without actually staying at the establishment with the guests. This applies to PIR weekend only.
Abby,
"BE SPONSORED BY A MILITARY MEMBER or DoD CIVILIAN WHO HAS A VALID MILITARY ID CARD or CAC CARD AND IS STAYING AT THE SAME NAVY GETAWAYS LOCATION"
