OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I must say this site has been very helpful to me during this transition. It's very informative. Unless you have a child in the military most won't understand your concerns, worries or ect. My son will graduate on December 31st and I just joined this site about a week ago. Only if I knew about this forum of much support weeks earlier. :) I have been able to read other mothers that are dealing with the same emotions. Naturally as a mother we tend worry about your children no matter the age.

My son has turned 20 since being in boot camp and that was hard knowing that he was away from me and his family on such a special day. He understood this would be one more sacrifice when he left. If he could be positive about why couldn't I? As a mother/parent I know what was instilled in him and knew he would be fine. To my surprise he was able to call me on his birthday!!!! He and the other sailors were given phone, arcade & fast food privileges for a few hours. That made me feel really good!!!! Sailors gave him shout outs on his special day and someone even bought him cookies. :)

So, moms stay encouraged and trust what you have planted in your children! They are stronger than what we think! We just have to be patient through this process and keep them encouraged!!! And think about this....they could be doing anything else with their lives but they choose to serve our country!!!! Many would love to be in their place right now!!!! It takes a special kind of person to be in the military!!!

This experience has reminded that I can't be selfish with my son (anymore). When he was 3; I could be selfish but when he became an adult and made this decision he got to be selfish. It's his time to shine while I sit back watch his growth. I continue to support him whether I agree or not, nurture his adulthood and protect his heart by letting him grow up/make his own decisions. I offer advice but I've allowed him to make his own decisions.

Remember no matter how you may be feeling....there's always someone else that feels the same way. You're NOT alone Ladies.
