Kiana has been gone since August 21st and everyday has been a struggle. While some are good and no crying is involved others break my heart and out of left field I start to weep. The Box was awful...I at least knew she was okay but no word written or spoken. Then came the first heartbreaking letter. I still read it now on Oct. 2nd when she graduates in seventeen days. She talked about crying herself to sleep and wanting to come home. It took everything in my body not to jump in the car and go get her. Not being able to hold your child when they need you is devastating but I knew this is what she wanted. This was her decision not mine and it truly is giving her a better life and I am extremly  proud. Now comes the good stuff. At week three she called and I cried like a newborn with joy. What a beautiful sound to hear her voice. Thirty minutes we got to talk to her and she was starting to sound better. Then on Friday, September 28th she called at 10:30 pm. She said it was her reward for having a perfect watch log...overjoyed I was and damn pride. She is getting the hang of military life. Then on Saturday, September 29th she called again and we talked for another 25 minutes. I was in heaven and she made me literally feel better. I was in bed sick and asleep when she called. She said she got another reward because her division passed inspection. So moms and dads out there write your new recruits everyday and tell them about these little rewards they get for doing good on jobs and tasks. Not only is it a motivation booster for them but us too. As always I will keep all military parents in my thoughts. Kianasmom- Shelley

Yes I read this. It came from the heart and was meant to help new recruits parents' deal with them being away. I loved that my daugther was rewarded for doing good and trying her hardest. It was meant to let parents know that if their recruits do the same they might get to hear from them more often. One of our friend's son only got to call home once. I am sure he did awesome too, but maybe his ship and division gave other types of rewards. If my grammar or writing was off I am sorry. It was meant as a good gesture.
