I just sent our first batch of cards and letters from my son's brothers and I. it was a relief to get his first note along with his packet. I am patiently awaiting his first call. It's funny to refer to everything he is doing at Great Lakes as his "first". It reminds me of filling out his baby book. That was another lifetime ago now. I hope you find comfort in the Navy Mom's site. We know how you feel. "Keep busy" is probably the best advice. I'm going to check out boot camp moms myself. Best, Shelli

Xanax! Why didn't I think of that! Do you feel terribly proud and terribly terrible at the same time? It's all quite an adjustment, isn't it? I think we'll all, moms and kids both, be okay. Hang tuff mom :)

My only son went to boot camp last January and I think it was one of the hardest times in my life as well. Im sure its harder on the parents then the child, which actually helped me because I knew I could get through it as long as he was okay. I was so excited to go to boot camp graduation, and then after we got to see him for such a short time (maybe 1 day) before he left for A school, I felt like I was back at square one again, it was so hard to say good bye, I was a basket case. Now, it will be a year in January and I can say that it does get easier. I knew this was our sons dream and that's what its all about. You dont realize until they leave how much your world evolves around them.  Im working on new hobbies, reading, yoga really helps. I agree, keep busy. I hadnt written letters in years and I found it therapeutic to write. Im sure you know: only send basic white envelopes with no stickers, even patriotic ones. Alsom dont write anything other than the address on the envelopes. I had put a shiny flag sticker on a couple envelopes and he had to do pushups :(   Stay Strong!!

Thanks for the reminder of white envelopes. Remember from when my husband was in. I know the BASKET CASE feeling. I am there. I know he wanted this or that he wanted something. I just hope and pray this is the right something for him. He wanted friends that matter, being a only child and such. I changed jobs hoping it would help me. Going to gym alot. Readin, Navy formoms, too much cleaning! I will stay strong and be there for him. Nice to have others to talk to.
