I hugged my "little boy" goodbye
He hugged me back and said, "Mom, don't cry."
I couldn't bare to walk away
I didn't let myself look back that day
His car was still parked in the drive at home
In his room were his keys and treasured cell phone
There sat his abandoned x-box and video games
Without him here nothing will be the same
No yelling for him to turn the "music" down
His hundreds of CD's are just sitting around
I slept with my phone the first couple of nights
But I didn't hear from him saying he was allright
Though I didn't get my "hey, mom, I'm here call"
I know he arrived safely after all
Just wondering what he is doing each day
It feels so strange for him to be so far away
I pray he is well and adjusting fine
Learning how to "tow the line"
Hope he knows how much we care
I can't wait for graduation to see him there
And though I miss my precious little boy
My heart is filled with pride and joy
At the very grownup choice he has made
And for the foundation that has been laid
He will always be my son, no matter where he shall go
Goodbye to the little boy, but to the grown man, I say, "hello!"
Dedicated to my son: Matthew ....AKA Matty
Well said!
My son has been gone one year, as of two days ago....I knew that his leaving would be difficult, but I had no idea of the impact it would have on our family. I think we all went thru a grieving process. My daughters and husband miss him dearly and I honestly slipped into a deep depression. ESP when he'd call and you could tell he was so home-sick. He now has many friends and rents a house off base. I can hear the change in his voice and attitude. He is no longer my baby boy, he has become a man. He's now self motivated, happy and taking charge of his own life. For that, I am thankful. I pray for all of our sailors and may God Bless them and keep them safe from harm.
