shuttle vs driving to base for graduation and dress

From experienced graduate moms,  what is the best method?  Using hotel shuttles getting to and from the base for graduation or driving your car???  And what about the dress for the graduation?

I am so glad we used the hotel shuttle to get to and from PIR. The traffic getting in was backed up pretty bad. We were simply dropped off in front of the gate and got right in. Wear comfortable clothing. You will be sitting on metal bleachers for a few hours. Also, if you are going soon, I would recommend the warmest clothes you can find. It is a dressy event, but be practical. Heels are not necessary. I wore slacks and a sweater in October.

We went back to hotel and then took the rented car to Gurnee for food and the mall. It seemed many sailors couldn't wait to get to the mall.

I drove. Some thought it would take forever to get on base, but that only took about 5 seconds. No wait to drive on base. I drove on at about 6:45-7:00 am and I think I was early enough to avoid traffic. The wait was to get into where the graduation actually took place. It was also nice to drive where I wanted, when I wanted after graduation. I saw the shuttle people waiting for a while afterward. People dress in all ways. I wore a dress, because I wanted to look really cute for my hubby, but I would say slacks would be most appropriate. People wore jeans too though.
