My son Joshua is now halfway thru boot camp in the Great Lakes. It's gone by fast for me but I'm sure he doesn't feel the same. I've received two letters and a phone call from him so far. He sounded good except for a head cold - was eating very well. Joshua is a very strong and determined young man - he's going to be just fine.

Mom on the other hand is alittle anxious about graduation in October. I've heard alot of different stories and want to make the right choices in unfamiliar territory. I'm flying into O'Hare but am unsure where to stay. I understand the traffic is horrendous that morning so I'm thinking of trying to stay close - are the hotels decent?

Yesenia — not sure if you're talking to me or MJ, but I can tell you really quick that your son will be able to call you and let you know ahead of time if he'll be graduating with the rest of his division! The BootCamp Sailors are allowed to use the phone a couple of times, usually to set up when and where to meet family, so he shouldn't have any problem calling. May I suggest something? If you can't make it to Graduation, they do offer a DVD of it that you can order. It's really something to see, and I highly suggest it!

OMG - okay my son graduated last Friday October 7th - what an awesome ceremony. We all say how proud we are of our kids for making this life changing choice but when it's happening and your sitting there, you are so filled with emotion it's so much more then proud - words can't describe it - it's just so much more. We only got seven hours with him and he flew out to his A school. Plans for the weekend didn't quite pan out but those seven hours did. We stayed at the Comfort Inn on Belvidere and took the shuttle - PERFECT. Friday night when it was time for my sailor to return to base I called the same shuttle service to pick him up (skirt around traffic - drops them at the gate) they only charged me $10 and they picked him up in a stretch limousine! Nice finishing touch to a wonderful day!
