I decided today that I want to do something that will involve my students in the process I'm going through. I teach special needs middle school students; mostly autistic kids and those with mild to moderate mental disabilities. They all know Sarah, as she has volunteered in my classroom many times. They knew she was going into the Navy, but I only shared with them today that she is gone to bc. (one of my girls asked why I seem so sad lately.) I know that some recruits don't get a lot of mail, so I've decided that as soon as I start getting letters from Sarah, my kids are going to begin writing letters to pen-pals. Waiting for Sarah's first letter will give me time to plan, and a baseline for when the kids might expect a response, if they are fortunate enough to get one. Each student will only include their first name, and the letters will be mailed to the school, care of Ms. McG's class. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to best address an envelop to a random sailor?
I would ask the RTC public affairs office how best to do the project.
