My son leaves next week on Feb 20th. I'm excited, but scared. I can't believe how fast this last month has gone by.....I have been pouring over all of the blogs/pages and the info helps to calm me down. My son is coming home this weekend for a very short visit before he leaves. He's older (25) and hasn't lived at home for some time now, but I'm use to talking to him almost every day! That's gonna be the hardest part....not hearing his voice. I'm trying my best to hold it together!! It will be a great adventure though! I'm sure of it....

Our son left 1week ago yesterday. It is very hard not hearing or seeing their beautiful face's. I am at peace that he is safe and I know he is probably home sick. I can't wait to see him he graduates on April5, 2013

Suggestion: before my SR left for RTC, I had him leave a voice message on my cell phone that I saved and everytime I want or need to just hear his voice I play that voice message over and over. At least it has helped me.

Because once they are in BC calls seem to be to few, because they have to earn the phone privilege.

This is the best place to connect with others that are going thru the same thing as you...

Hi UBU's Mom!  My son left on Feb. 6th so I can understand (like all the Mom's here) how you are feeling.  Part of you wants time to slow down to delay them leaving, but the other part knows it's time for them to start their own independent journey.  This is a pretty awesome path for the new journey...don't you think?  I will say it was very hard when he first left and we've done little things to help us with how much we miss him.  We leave his desk light on in his room (couldn't stand for it to be dark with the door closed), we leave his clock radio on on the time (like the light), and did the same thing darsatm (above post) did....had him leave a voice mail so that we could hear his voice while he was at RTC.  Seems like maybe silly things to do, but they help and make it just a little bit easier.  I also started writing him a letter almost in a conversation style - I post interesting bits of news, funny picture, encouraging FB posts from friends and family, and anything I think he may be interested in.  I hope this helps in some small way.  Hang in there!

Thanks to you all that gave me encouragement and great ideas. We leave tomorrow to go to the recruiter and then he goes to Meps in charlotte NC. I have saved several of his voice mails, and he is going to leave me another. We had his party over the weekend. I called it his "celebrate the Navy party". Plus his grandma turned 80 and we had her birthday party and he was here to attend. So we have had a large fun partying time. It was a lot of fun. Now reality is setting in and I find myself being sad and happy all at the same time. I'm not sleeping very well and I probably won't for a while. I appreciate all of the support. I am NOT going to cry in front of my son, but I have cried my eyes out until I can't cry anymore. I know it will get better, its just gonna be a long 8 weeks.

Well, the day has arrived, Feb 20th. It is 5:00 in the am and I'm wide awake thinking of my son. He will go to Chicago today! I'm a nervous Nellie! I will see him sworn in today. His gf and her mom are going to attend also. I am so proud. The day has finally arrived. Now I guess I get to wait for my kid in a box to arrive! Thanks to all for the support. I am so appreciative.
