My fiancee has been in the military for about 6 years and was recently given an assignment to go and work out in Kuwait for a year as an MA (Master of Arms). It was very shocking because he was basically "voluntold" to go and we had to drop all of our plans such as getting married in a year or so and instead get ready for him to leave for a 2 month training in Fort Dix,NJ. I was very excited for him and definitely tried to make the best out of it because it was something new to add to his navy career. As much as I wanted him here and I knew how hard it was going to be missing him and not always having a stable communication, we got through it and today he is coming home from training! We are all very excited and I feel like we got through these past couple months even though it was extremely difficult.
Now, he is on his way back to his parent command in Norfolk, VA. The issue now we are facing is we don't think they are going to give him leave and may instead make him work the 2 weeks that they are giving him before his plane ships him to Kuwait. Im so mad, I know I can't control it and its a military thing, but he called me last night when he finally got reception and was telling me how everyone else he knew was calling their parent commands and getting granted vacation and he was so mad about it all.
And I realize every command is different, but it has always been a struggle for him to get vacation at his command and it frustrates me so much. I just needed to vent and get it out. He works so hard and you would think his command would realize that and figure he is leaving his life in the US to go to kuwait, why make him work the entire break he has before he leaves for a year to WORK? And honestly Im not even frustrated that he may not be able to come home to me, but the fact that he will be up back at his command working!!! He just spent 2 months working his butt off. I know how the military is and I know I shouldn't let it get to me so much, But I guess this is just the emotions coming out. We will see what happens. I've learned not to get my hopes up but I still always remain full of faith. I told him I chose this life with him and I love him. Thats all that matters in the end, at least we have our love.

I wish that I could! But Im a full time student, and through out this year I have used too many sick days for various reasons. I saw about 5 months ago when I went up to visit before he went to training so we counted that as our last visit. And actually he ended getting a little bit of time to come home and visit. Not much, but enough!! I was so grateful. He just left and actually just got to Kuwait today and Im a complete wreck. Missing him so much.
