My son is leaving in 10 days to boot camp. It came by way too fast. Just been trying to have a lot of good quality time with him before he leaves. Me and his dad are going to miss him extremely. He's such a great young man. He wants this so bad. And he's nervous and excited for this journey ahead. I plan on coming on here a lot to get support and the info I need to plan our trip to see him graduate in October!!

My son has been gone exactly 1 week tomorrow. My heart aches as I wait by the mailbox for his 1st letter to me. Spend quality time with hime. What seems simple to you seems great to him. I enjoyed my son's trip to the car dealership to test drive his next automobile. Laughed, grabbed a soda and payed my Victoria Secret bill on the dealerships account. Time I will remember forever. Did I mention we were late getting back from the test drive. HA HA

I know in a lil more than a week im gonna be a mess. This weekend im having another get together so everyone can just wish him a well send off. Ive been pretty strong not crying or being an emotional wreck in front of him. But at times I feel so down n sad. The one thing that is keeping me strong is knowing how much he wants to do this. Im so glad I have so many woman feeling the same way and totally will help me out.

You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August. You will meet others with loved ones leaving the same day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

My son is in his third week of boot camp.  We miss him like crazy, but have received one letter and a 45 minute phone call from him.  He sounded so happy!!! Knowing he is living his dream gives me comfort.  One of my friends has a daughter at boot camp also.  Her daughter has been given three phone calls.  On Saturday, I was crushed that I did not get a third call, but I know my son is fine or we would have been notified.

Congrats!  Keep your phone close and don't go on vacation or to the movies or you'll surely miss a call, lol.  A few people on here made themselves unavailable and then really bummed when the call was missed.  Me, it was practically implanted on my hip! haha Since I felt helpless just "waiting" I wrote a letter everyday to my SR and he loved it.  I rallied everyone and their brother to write, even handed out avery address labels and stamped envelopes with writing paper to make it super easy.  The more mail received, the better as far as my SR was concerned.  Plus, it'll make you feel better knowing you are "doing something" for him.  I sent a few pictures with each letter, magazine articles, a comic strip or whatever. News about his favorite band or upcoming concerts..  Anything will be better than nothing.  One thing you can send, he'll want foot powder.  I sent two to my son.  I hope this info helps...There is a TON of information on here and even on facebook, there are family pages for us. Good Luck to you all and remind him that others are going through the same things, feelings, etc and that in just a few short weeks, believe it or not, he'll be happier than ever for what he's accomplished.

Thank you wheezer 321. The support on here is amazing. And I was just thinking this morning if I were able to send him pics n stuff. So you answered my question. And I already said my phone is going with me EVERYWHERE!!!!

Only send newspaper or magazine clippings and comics after checking with your SR. Some RDC's don't permit them (and will give IT for them) and some don't care. See  Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit for more on what you can and cannot send.
