Glad to hear you made it through the graduation process. You'll have to let me know what to expect when we get there? We still have to book our flight and was hoping to fly out of Fresno. Now you're on to the next adventure. Hope all goes well for your son.

Alot of chatter about the "I am a Sailor" phone calls. No word on our boys yet though :(

Hi Fresno Mom,

I'm a Hanford mom! My boy has only been gone two weeks so I have a long ways to go. We just got the form letter as to know where to write letters, etc. I immediately sat down and wrote two letters and then emailed everyone I knew to send him letters of encouragement. Happy to see that you will soon be past this stage and on to a bigger and better future with the Navy. Best Wishes for you and your family.

Hi FresnoNavyMom

My son's wife and I will both be at PIR. We're staying at the Courtyard Waukegan not too far north of the base.

I just call Brian from PIRGifts and he says you don't have to worry.  They have about 50 USS Triton coins left.  Glad you like it.  That was the 1st coin I designed.

We got our second letter on Thursday. Mine was two pages long.  I've read it a half dozen times by now. I miss my son so much!

If yoour phone works in the mountains then I would go.  My son was one of the lucky ones and he got to call home multiple times.  Some were for his security clearance the others because is Division was doing really well.  Almost all of my son's calls were during the week.  I don't remember one weekend call, you might ask other veterans about that.  My friend had two sons who are inthe Navy and she never got a single call from either one-they were always on watch or Division lost priviledges.  So, I know how much the calls mean, but waiting for something that might not come would be equally disappointing.  I know personally it would have been a tough call for me if I was in the same situation, because they want to speak to us as much as we want to speak to them.  So, my advice is go if you can get reception and if not check in to a local hotel where you get reception and still be out of the house so you can get that needed break.  Have you gotten any letters yet?

:-( Looks like we're not getting a call today. The waiting is killing me.

Hi my son is Ship 12 Div 296.  I have been trying to find someone on here with the same.  Have you heard from him?  I not a word and am going crazy.  I have my trip all booked for graduation.  I am from Colorado.

At 11:17am on August 9, 2012, IndyMom said…

Tell them this is not like going to college.  They can have contact and visits which our SR's cannot.  Plus they are embarking on a career which puts them in harms way and many time far from home. My son is in A School now and we talk, text, or Skype every other day.  I think the letter writing in BC made us even closer on another level.  So hang in there and keep writing letters.

"The Box" arrived at my ex's today. Now we're awaiting The Letter. I've written seven letters to my son - one a day since he left. They're sitting on my desk, sealed, stamped, and ready to be addressed. I wonder how he's doing.
